A story for: Nora, Age 5
Created October 02, 2026
Under the soft, velvety blanket of night, little Nora snuggled deep into her bed. The stars outside her window twinkled like tiny diamonds scattered across the sky, and a big, friendly moon peeked in, casting a gentle glow on her favorite teddy bear.
Nora often wished she could visit the moon. She imagined it was a giant, soft pillow where dreams were born. Tonight, as she closed her eyes, she heard a very soft rustle, like silk wings fluttering in the breeze. She opened her eyes just a tiny crack.
There, perched on her windowsill, was not a bird, but a dragon! But this wasn’t just any dragon. This dragon was made of moonlight. Its scales shimmered with all the colors of a rainbow, but very, very faint, like a whisper. And its eyes were as warm and kind as the moon itself. “Hello, Nora,” the moon-dragon whispered, its voice like the gentle tinkling of wind chimes. “I’ve come to give you a special bedtime story.”
Nora’s eyes grew wide with wonder, but she wasn’t scared. The moon-dragon felt so warm and safe. “A story?” she whispered back, her voice barely a breath. The moon-dragon nodded, a tiny silver star sparkling on its nose. “Yes, a story just for you, about the moon.”
The moon-dragon gently scooped Nora up, and she felt as light as a feather. They didn't fly, not really. It was more like they floated, drifting out of her window and up, up, up towards the big, round moon. The world below looked like a patchwork quilt of sleeping houses and sparkling lights. Everything was quiet and peaceful.
As they got closer to the moon, Nora saw that it wasn't a giant pillow, but a soft, glowing orb. Little craters looked like gentle dimples. The moon-dragon began to hum a tune, a soft, sleepy melody that swirled around Nora like a warm hug. It sang of sleepy clouds drifting by, of stars whispering secrets, and of dreams being painted in the sky with silver dust.
Nora felt her eyelids grow heavy. The moon-dragon’s song was so soothing, like a gentle lullaby. She leaned against its warm, moonlight scales, feeling completely safe and loved. The moon glowed around them, a big, friendly nightlight.
She imagined the moon-dragon carefully tucking away all the worries of the day, like little pieces of dust, so that only happy dreams could play. Slowly, softly, Nora’s head drooped. The moon-dragon hummed one last, sweet note as it gently floated her back into her bed. Nora barely felt the soft landing. She was already drifting into a wonderful dream, filled with moonbeams and friendly dragons, her heart full of peace and quiet joy. And as she slept, the moon-dragon smiled, knowing its lullaby had worked its magic.
