Arlo's Twinkling Star Wish

A story for: Arlo, Age 5

Created June 26, 2026

Once upon a time, in a cozy little house tucked beside a field of soft, sleepy flowers, lived a kind boy named Arlo. Arlo had the brightest, most curious eyes, and a smile that could make even a grumpy cloud feel happy.

Tonight, as the sky turned a gentle lavender and the first stars began to peek out, Arlo was getting ready for bed. He had brushed his teeth sparkling clean and put on his comfiest, softest pajamas. His mama came in to tuck him in, her voice as warm and gentle as a summer breeze.

“Goodnight, my sweet Arlo,” she whispered, kissing his forehead. “Did you have a good day?”

Arlo snuggled deep into his blankets. “Yes, Mama! I helped Papa water the garden, and I shared my apple with Barnaby the squirrel.”

His mama smiled. “That was very kind of you, Arlo. Barnaby must have been so happy.” She stroked his hair gently. “You know, when you are kind and helpful, it’s like you’re planting little seeds of joy all around. And those seeds grow into beautiful, invisible flowers that make the world a lovelier place for everyone.”

Arlo thought about that. Invisible flowers of joy. What a wonderful idea! He closed his eyes, imagining tiny, sparkly flowers blooming wherever he had been kind that day.

“And today, when your friend Leo wanted to play with your red truck, and you shared it with him, that was like planting a friendship flower,” Mama continued softly. “And when you helped clean up your toys without being asked, that was a helpfulness flower.”

Arlo giggled sleepily. “So many flowers!”

“Yes, so many,” Mama agreed. “And tonight, as you drift off to sleep, those flowers are sending out the sweetest, most peaceful scent, just for you.”

Arlo yawned, a big, sleepy yawn. He imagined his room filled with the soft glow of his invisible joy flowers. He pictured the friendship flower, bright red like his truck, and the helpfulness flower, sparkling blue from his clean blocks. Each one made him feel warm and safe.

He thought about tomorrow. What new invisible flowers could he plant? Maybe a listening flower when his sister told him about her day, or a patience flower when he waited for his turn. The possibilities made him feel happy and calm.

The stars outside his window twinkled, like tiny sleepy eyes winking goodnight. The moon cast a soft, silver glow into his room. Arlo’s breathing became slow and steady. The invisible flowers of joy filled his dreams, their gentle scent lulling him deeper and deeper into a peaceful sleep. He smiled softly, ready for another day of planting kindness, and another night of sweet, flower-filled dreams.
