Remy and the Whispering Cloud

A story for: Remy, Age 5

Created August 18, 2026

The stars were beginning to twinkle, one by one, like tiny diamonds sprinkled across a big, velvet cloth. Inside, little Remy was tucked snugly in his bed, a soft blanket pulled right up to his chin. He yawned a small, sleepy yawn, but his eyes were still a little bit open, watching the moon peek through his window.

"Are you comfy, Remy?" a soft, bubbly voice whispered from the corner of the room. Remy smiled. It was Nimbus, his very best imaginary friend. Nimbus wasn't like other friends; he was a fluffy, glowing cloud, just the right size to float gently above Remy's favorite armchair.

"Almost comfy," Remy mumbled, stretching his toes under the covers. "But my mind is still bouncing, like a little ball."

Nimbus giggled, a sound like tiny bells ringing. "Ah, a bouncy mind! I know just what to do." Nimbus drifted closer, his soft glow making the shadows in the room dance gently. "Tonight, we'll go on a quiet journey, just you and me."

Remy's eyes widened with a hint of sleepy wonder. "Where are we going?"

"To the Land of Soft Dreams," Nimbus whispered, his cloud-like body rippling gently. "It's a very special place, filled with calm and quiet thoughts. But we have to get there slowly, like a feather floating down."

Remy closed his eyes, pretending to float. Nimbus began to hum a gentle, lulling tune, a melody that sounded like the wind sighing through tall grass. "First," Nimbus said, his voice like warm honey, "imagine your feet. Are they heavy or light? Feel them sinking a little into the bed, getting warm and sleepy."

Remy wiggled his toes, feeling them grow heavy and still. "Heavy," he whispered.

"Good. Now, imagine that peaceful feeling moving up your legs, making your knees feel soft and relaxed. Up, up it goes, past your tummy, making it feel warm and full from your dinner."

Remy’s breathing grew slower, deeper. He could almost feel a wave of warmth spreading through him. "It feels nice," he murmured, a little sleepier this time.

"And now, let that softness reach your shoulders, making them feel loose and gentle. Then down your arms, all the way to your fingers. Imagine them completely still, resting on your blanket."

Remy's hands, which had been fidgeting just moments before, lay perfectly still. He felt as if he was melting into his bed.

"Finally," Nimbus said, his glow dimming ever so slightly, "let that peaceful feeling drift into your neck, and into your head. Imagine all your bouncy thoughts turning into slow, drifting clouds, just like me. They float away, one by one, until your mind is quiet and still."

Remy felt his eyelids grow heavy, so heavy he couldn't keep them open anymore. He could hear Nimbus's soft humming, and the distant, gentle whisper of the wind outside his window. His body felt like a warm, soft pillow, and his mind was clear and calm. He was floating, not through the air, but through a sea of quiet dreams. A soft, contented sigh escaped his lips as he drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, Nimbus's gentle glow watching over him until morning.
