Eli the Whale's Lullaby

A story for: Eli, Age 5

Created July 23, 2026

Far, far away, in the deepest, bluest part of the ocean, lived a kind and gentle whale named Eli. Eli wasn't like other whales who might chase after yummy fish or play boisterous games. Eli loved to sing.

Every evening, as the sun dipped its sleepy head below the water's edge, Eli would find his favorite quiet spot amongst the swaying kelp forests. He'd take a very deep breath, filling his big body with cool ocean air, and then, he'd begin.

His song wasn't loud or booming. Oh no. Eli's song was soft and humming, like a gentle whisper carried on the currents. It was a lullaby for the ocean itself.

First, the little sparkly fish, darting here and there all day, would slow their wiggles. They'd listen to Eli's hum, and their scales would shimmer just a little bit slower, a little bit softer. Then, they'd tuck themselves into cozy coral caves for the night.

The busy crabs, who usually scuttled sideways with such important clicks and clacks, would freeze for a moment. Eli's song would drift over them, like a warm, silky blanket. Their little eyes would blink, and then, they'd snuggle down into the sand, dreaming of tasty seaweed.

Even the big, slow sea turtles, who liked to swim for miles and miles, would feel the peace of Eli's tune. They'd find a comfortable patch of water, let out a slow sigh, and drift off to sleep, their flippers resting gently.

Eli's lullaby made the water itself feel calm. The waves that had been splashing and giggling all day would become soft and smooth, like a giant, quiet breath. The moon, peeking out from above, seemed to listen too, casting a silvery glow on the now peaceful ocean.

Eli would sing until the very last little sea creature had settled down for the night, until the last ripple had smoothed into stillness. His voice was a comforting hug, tucking everyone in.

Finally, when the entire ocean was fast asleep, Eli would feel a soft tiredness spread through his own big body. He'd find a perfect, soft bed of sand, let out a contented hum, and close his own sleepy eyes. And as the gentle currents swayed him, Eli the whale would drift off to sleep, dreaming of the peaceful, quiet ocean he had helped to lull to slumber.
