A story for: Ruby, Age 3
Created July 05, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled deep in a cozy little burrow under a big, friendly oak tree, lived a tiny mouse named Ruby. Ruby had soft, grey fur, the daintiest little paws, and the brightest, most curious eyes you ever did see. Every night, as the sun dipped below the hills and the world grew quiet, Ruby would peek out from her snug home.
Tonight, however, was special. The moon was a sliver of silver, and the sky was sprinkled with so many twinkling stars, like tiny diamonds thrown across a velvet blanket. Ruby felt a little whisper in her heart, a tiny pull, inviting her on an adventure.
With a gentle sniff and a wiggle of her whiskers, Ruby tiptoed out. The air was cool and smelled of sweet night-blooming flowers. As she ventured further from her burrow, she noticed something wonderful. The trees around her, usually dark and shadowy at night, were beginning to glow!
Little lights, like fireflies but much softer and more constant, twinkled from every leaf and branch. It was as if the stars themselves had decided to come down and decorate the forest just for Ruby. This was the Starry Woods, a magical place that only appeared on the clearest, quietest nights.
Ruby’s tiny heart filled with wonder. She scampered along, her paws making the softest rustle on the mossy ground. Each glowing leaf cast a gentle, warm light, making the path ahead feel safe and inviting. She saw little patches of flowers that shimmered with starlight, and even the dew drops on spiderwebs sparkled like tiny jewels.
She came to a small, clear pond. The water was so still, it perfectly reflected the glowing trees and the real stars above. It was like looking into another sky, right there on the ground! Ruby dipped a tiny paw into the cool water, and the reflections danced around her toes.
A yawn, a little one, stretched Ruby’s mouth. She had explored so much! The Starry Woods had filled her with such peace and happiness. The gentle glow of the leaves seemed to hum a lullaby, a soft, soothing song just for her.
Ruby found a particularly soft patch of moss under a tree whose leaves glowed a gentle, sleepy blue. She curled into a tiny ball, her eyes heavy. The Starry Woods kept her safe and warm with their magical light. She closed her eyes, feeling the soft moss beneath her and the quiet magic all around. The last thing she saw before drifting off to dreamland was the gentle, sleepy shimmer of the blue leaves, lulling her into a very sweet, very deep sleep.
