A story for: Cleo, Age 6
Created September 25, 2026
Deep in the heart of the coziest, greenest jungle, lived a little monkey named Cleo. Cleo had the softest fur, the brightest eyes, and the longest, wiggliest tail. Every night, as the sun began to dip below the towering trees, Cleo knew it was almost time for her favorite part of the day: bedtime.
Tonight, the jungle air was especially warm and gentle. The fireflies were beginning to blink on, like tiny, dancing stars, and the cicadas were singing their soft, sleepy songs. Cleo stretched her little arms and let out a big, happy yawn. Her mama, with her warm, comforting embrace, scooped Cleo up and held her close.
"It's time for our bedtime journey, my little one," Mama Monkey whispered, stroking Cleo's head. Cleo snuggled into her mama's fur, feeling safe and loved. They sat on their favorite branch, high up in a sturdy Kapok tree, which felt like the softest, greenest bed in the whole wide world.
Cleo looked out at the jungle as it prepared for sleep. She saw the gentle glow of the moon peeking through the leaves, casting silver shadows on the forest floor. A wise old owl hooted a soft 'goodnight' from a nearby tree, and Cleo imagined him tucking his own little owlets into their feathery nests.
She watched a family of sloths, moving ever so slowly, finding their perfect sleeping spots, hanging upside down like furry, contented ornaments. Cleo giggled softly, imagining how comfy they must be. The jungle was full of sleepy sounds: the rustle of leaves as a gentle breeze passed by, the distant, soothing croak of frogs near the lily pond, and the soft chirping of crickets.
Mama Monkey began to hum a quiet lullaby, a tune as old as the jungle itself. It spoke of sunny days, ripe bananas, and the safe, warm feeling of being home. Cleo's eyelids felt heavier and heavier. She thought about her day: swinging from vines like a tiny acrobat, finding the juiciest berries, and playing hide-and-seek with her best friend, a little chameleon named Cam.
Her thoughts drifted, like fluffy clouds floating across the sky. The jungle sounds became a soft, rhythmic hum, a perfect symphony for sleeping. The fireflies' blinking lights blurred into gentle blurs of gold. Cleo felt her body relax, from the tips of her fuzzy ears to the very end of her wiggling tail.
She took a deep, sleepy breath, smelling the sweet scent of night-blooming jasmine that drifted up from below. The moon was now a bright, round pearl in the velvet sky. Cleo closed her eyes, feeling the gentle sway of the branch, like a giant, natural cradle. She was warm, she was safe, and she was loved. And with one last, contented sigh, Cleo drifted off to sleep, dreaming of sunny jungle adventures and soft, sleepy songs.
