A story for: Ruby, Age 5
Created November 02, 2026
Deep in the Whispering Woods, where the moss was soft as velvet and the moonbeams painted silver stripes on the trees, lived a little bunny named Ruby. Ruby had the softest white fur, a twitchy pink nose, and the bravest little heart in the whole forest.
Every night, just as the stars began to twinkle like spilled sugar, Ruby would get ready for her very special job. She wasn't just any bunny; Ruby was the keeper of the Dream Lantern. This lantern wasn't made of ordinary glass and metal. Oh no! It glowed with a gentle, warm light, spun from moonbeams and the softest sleepy sighs.
Tonight, Ruby hopped to her cozy burrow, where the Dream Lantern rested on a bed of sweet-smelling clover. "Time to light the dreams," she whispered to the lantern, and gave it a tiny, loving pat. The lantern pulsed with a soft, golden glow, ready to work its magic.
Ruby carefully picked up the lantern by its tiny, smooth handle. Its warmth spread through her paws, making her feel safe and happy. First, she tiptoed past the sleeping badger family. The lantern cast a soft glow into their den, filling their dreams with yummy berries and warm, earthy smells.
Next, she hopped quietly past the owl's tall tree. Hoot, the owl, was already fast asleep, his feathers ruffled and soft. The Dream Lantern sent a peaceful shimmer his way, filling his dreams with silent flights through starry skies and quiet forest rustles.
Ruby’s favorite part was visiting the tiny field mice. They were curled up in their little nest, no bigger than a teacup. Ruby held the Dream Lantern just so, letting its gentle light spill over them. The mice would dream of nibbling tiny seeds and playing hide-and-seek among the tall grasses, safe from all worries.
As Ruby made her rounds, the Dream Lantern seemed to hum a soft lullaby. It wasn't a sound you could hear with your ears, but one you could feel in your heart. It was a song of peace, of comfort, and of sweet dreams for everyone in the Whispering Woods.
Finally, Ruby arrived back at her own burrow. She was a little sleepy herself now, her nose twitching just a little slower. She placed the Dream Lantern carefully back on its clover bed. Its light pulsed a final, sleepy glow, having filled the entire forest with wonderful dreams.
Ruby snuggled down into her own soft nest of moss. She closed her eyes, feeling the last, warm whispers of the Dream Lantern surrounding her. She knew that as she drifted off to sleep, her own dreams would be just as soft and lovely as the light she had shared. And with a contented sigh, brave little Ruby drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.
