Sage's Starry Slumber

A story for: Sage, Age 6

Created November 02, 2026

Once upon a time, high above the whispering trees and the sleepy houses, lived a little girl named Sage. Sage loved the night, especially when the stars twinkled like tiny diamonds scattered across a velvet cloth.

Tonight, Sage was snuggled deep in her cozy bed, her favorite fluffy blanket pulled right up to her chin. She looked out her window and saw the moon, round and glowing, like a friendly nightlight in the enormous sky. "Hello, Moon!" she whispered, and she imagined the moon winking back.

Suddenly, a tiny, silvery spark drifted through her window. It wasn't a firefly, or a dust bunny, but something much more magical. It spun gently, like a little dancer, and then settled right on her nose! It felt like a feather, light and ticklish.

"Hello there!" Sage giggled softly. The spark glowed a little brighter, as if saying hello back. Then, it floated upwards and out of her window. Sage felt a gentle pull, not a strong pull, but a soft, floaty feeling, like she was a feather herself. Before she knew it, she was floating right out of her window, not cold at all, but warm and safe, wrapped in her favorite blanket.

She looked down and saw her house, small and cozy. She looked up and saw the moon, much closer now! The tiny spark zoomed ahead, and Sage followed, drifting effortlessly through the soft night air. They floated past fluffy clouds, which looked like giant cotton balls, and Sage felt like she could reach out and touch them.

Soon, they were among the stars! They weren't just tiny dots anymore; they were big, sparkling jewels, some red, some blue, some golden. Sage saw a star that shimmered like a rainbow, and another that pulsed gently, like a sleepy heart. The little spark zipped around her, showing her all the wonders.

She saw a planet that was swirling with beautiful blue and green, like a giant marble. "That's Earth," the spark seemed to hum in her mind, "your home, sleeping peacefully." Sage smiled. She saw another planet with rings that looked like hula hoops made of sparkling dust. It was all so quiet and peaceful up here, just the gentle hum of the stars and the soft glow of distant galaxies.

The little spark danced one last time around her, then began to drift downwards. Sage felt the same soft, floaty pull guiding her back. Down, down, past the sleepy clouds, past the friendly moon, and gently, gently, back through her window. She landed softly in her bed, still wrapped in her blanket.

The silvery spark shimmered one last time, then faded away, leaving behind a feeling of wonder and calm. Sage snuggled deeper into her pillow, her eyelids feeling heavy. She remembered the big, gentle stars and the silent, beautiful planets. A soft smile touched her lips as she drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, dreaming of all the wonders she had seen in her starry, cozy journey.
