A story for: Wren, Age 5
Created October 16, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy little burrow beneath the roots of a giant oak tree, lived a tiny mouse named Wren. Wren had soft, silvery fur and the brightest, most curious eyes. Every night, before she snuggled down, Wren would peek out of her burrow, her whiskers twitching with wonder.
Tonight, the moon was a friendly, round smile in the sky, and the stars twinkled like scattered diamonds. But Wren wasn't looking at the sky. She was looking at something even more magical, deep in the forest. It was a soft, shimmering glow, like a secret whisper of light.
“Oh, I wish I could see what that is,” Wren sighed softly. Her Mama Mouse, who was already half-asleep, stirred and said, “That, my little Wren, is the Starlight Forest. It’s where the fallen stars come to rest, and they light up the trees with their gentle glow.”
Wren’s heart fluttered with excitement. She had never been to the Starlight Forest before. Mama Mouse usually said it was too far for a tiny mouse. But tonight, the glow looked so close, and so very inviting.
Carefully, quietly, Wren tiptoed out of her burrow. The night air was cool and smelled of damp earth and sweet flowers. She padded along the forest floor, her little paws making no sound at all. The glow grew brighter and brighter, painting the leaves and branches with a soft, ethereal light.
Soon, Wren found herself in the most beautiful place she had ever seen. The trees weren’t just trees anymore; they were gentle giants draped in sparkling stardust. Tiny, sleepy glow-worms pulsed with soft light, and delicate, shimmering mushrooms glowed like little lanterns. Each leaf seemed to hold a tiny, sleeping star, humming a lullaby.
Wren looked up at a grand old tree, its branches reaching to the sky, sparkling with a thousand gentle lights. She saw a little patch of soft, velvety moss at its base, bathed in the softest, warmest light. It looked like the perfect place for a tiny mouse to rest.
She snuggled down onto the moss, her fur feeling wonderfully warm. The Starlight Forest hummed a quiet, comforting tune. The air was filled with soft, happy whispers of light. Wren watched as tiny dust motes, like miniature stars, danced in the gentle glow. Each blink became a little heavier, each breath a little slower.
The Starlight Forest was a wonderful, peaceful place. Wren felt safe and loved, surrounded by all the gentle, sleeping stars. Her eyelids grew very heavy, heavier than fluffy clouds. She yawned a tiny, sleepy yawn. The soft light of the Starlight Forest was like a warm blanket, tucking her in. Wren closed her eyes, dreaming of sparkling leaves and whispering stars, and drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.
