Cleo's Lullaby

A story for: Cleo, Age 4

Created October 02, 2026

Far, far away, in the biggest, bluest ocean, lived a kind little whale named Cleo.

Cleo wasn't like the other whales who splashed and played all day. Cleo loved to sing. And not just any songs! Cleo sang special, soft, sleepy songs.

Every evening, as the sun began to dip its toes into the water, painting the sky with colors of orange and pink, Cleo would get ready for her most important job. It was time to sing the ocean to sleep.

First, Cleo would take a big, deep breath, filling her body with the calm, cool ocean air. Then, she would begin. Her song was like a gentle hum, a soft, low sound that floated through the water. It wasn't loud, but it was strong enough to reach every little fish and every tiny crab.

The little clownfish, who had been zipping and zooming all day, would hear Cleo's song and slow down. Their bright orange fins would stop wiggling so fast. They would cuddle close to their anemone homes, their eyes growing a little heavy.

The busy seahorses, who loved to dance among the seaweed, would gently uncurl their tails from the swaying plants. They would find a soft, quiet spot, and their little heads would begin to nod.

Even the playful dolphins, who usually loved to leap and splash, would quiet down. They would swim slower, their playful clicks turning into soft sighs. They knew Cleo's song meant it was time for quiet dreams.

Cleo's song was like a warm blanket, spreading over the whole ocean. It made the waves gentle and slow. It made the moonbeams shimmer softly on the water, like tiny, sleepy stars.

As Cleo sang, she would close her own big, kind eyes a little bit. She felt the peaceful rhythm of her song, flowing in and out with her breath. She loved knowing that her voice helped all her ocean friends feel safe and ready for sleep.

Finally, when the last star twinkled in the dark sky, and every little fish and big dolphin was fast asleep, Cleo would sing her very last, softest note. It was a whisper of a song, just for herself.

Then, Cleo would find a quiet spot, deep in the calm, dark water. She would feel the gentle sway of the ocean, a soft lullaby rocking her. She felt so warm, so peaceful, and so very sleepy. With a happy sigh, Cleo would close her eyes completely, drifting off to sleep, dreaming of the beautiful, quiet ocean she helped to lull to rest.
