A story for: Luna, Age 5
Created October 26, 2026
The stars twinkled like tiny diamonds spilled across a velvet blanket as Luna snuggled into her soft, warm bed. Tonight, the moon was a friendly, crescent smile peeking through her window, casting a gentle, silver glow on her favorite teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles.
“Goodnight, Mr. Snuggles,” Luna whispered, giving him a little pat. He seemed to blink back at her with his button eyes, ready for their special bedtime journey.
Luna closed her eyes and took a deep, sleepy breath. She imagined she was floating on a fluffy, white cloud, drifting higher and higher, past the tallest trees, past the sleepy birds in their nests, right up to the sparkling stars.
One star, a tiny, shy one, winked at Luna. It had a soft, shimmering light, and Luna felt like it was inviting her closer. She floated gently towards it, feeling warm and safe. As she got nearer, she heard a soft, musical whisper.
“Hello, Luna,” the star seemed to say. “I’m the Whispering Star. I tell sleepy stories to all the good children.”
Luna giggled quietly. “A story for me?” she asked, her voice a little sleepy.
“Yes,” the Whispering Star shimmered. “Tonight’s story is about a little glow-worm named Pip, who loved to make tiny, warm lights. Pip would light up the path for sleepy butterflies flying home, and he’d make little twinkles in the puddles after the rain, so the tadpoles could see their way.”
Luna imagined Pip, a tiny, friendly light flitting through the dewy grass. She saw the sleepy butterflies, their wings folded, guided by Pip’s gentle glow. She heard the soft splash of tadpoles in puddles, now bright with Pip’s magic.
The Whispering Star continued, its voice like a soft lullaby. “Pip’s favorite thing was to make the softest, warmest light right next to a sleeping flower. He knew the flower was dreaming sweet dreams, and his light helped it feel safe and cozy until the sun came up.”
Luna imagined a little flower, petals gently closed, dreaming of sunshine and dew. Pip’s tiny, warm light pulsed beside it, a silent, comforting friend. Luna felt her own eyelids grow heavy, just like the sleepy flower.
“And when Pip was tired,” the Whispering Star whispered, its light growing even softer, “he would curl up in a dewdrop, and his own light would dim, until he was just a little, sleepy sparkle, waiting for the morning.”
Luna’s cloud began to drift slowly downwards, past the sleepy birds, past the tall, dark trees. She was back in her warm bed, Mr. Snuggles beside her. The moon still smiled, and the stars still twinkled, but now they seemed even friendlier, knowing her secret friend, the Whispering Star.
Luna snuggled deeper under her blankets. The story of Pip had made her feel so peaceful and warm. Her breathing became slow and even. She felt her muscles relax, from her toes to her nose. She was a little, sleepy sparkle, just like Pip, ready to dream sweet dreams until the morning sun. A soft, contented sigh escaped her lips as she drifted off to sleep, feeling safe and loved.
