Finn the Whale's Sleepy Song

A story for: Finn, Age 3

Created July 08, 2026

Deep in the big, blue ocean, lived a very special whale named Finn.

Finn wasn't like other whales who liked to splash and play loudly all day. Finn loved quiet. He loved the soft, gentle sway of the water, and most of all, he loved to sing.

But Finn didn't sing bouncy, happy songs. Oh no. Finn sang sleepy songs. He sang the ocean to sleep.

When the sun began to dip low in the sky, painting the water in pretty oranges and pinks, Finn would take a deep, slow breath. Then, he would let out a sound so soft and calming, it would make the little fish yawn. It was a hum, a gentle, rumbling hum that traveled through the water like a warm hug.

First, the busy little clownfish, who had been darting in and out of their anemone, would slow down. Their bright orange fins would stop wiggling so fast. Then, they’d tuck themselves into their cozy, soft home, their eyes getting droopy.

Next, the graceful seahorses, who had been dancing around the tall, green seaweed, would start to sway slower and slower. Finn’s song was like a lullaby just for them. They’d curl their little tails around a piece of seaweed, close their tiny eyes, and drift off to dreamland.

Even the big, strong crabs, who spent their day scuttling across the sandy bottom, felt Finn's sleepy song. They would find a quiet rock, pull their legs close, and snuggle down for the night, their hard shells keeping them safe and sound.

Finn's song wasn't just for the little creatures. It was for the whole ocean. The waves on the surface would get softer, whispering to the shore. The currents, which pushed the water this way and that, would slow their dance. Everything became peaceful.

Finn would swim slowly, making sure his sleepy song reached every corner of his watery home. He sang about the gentle stars that would soon twinkle above the water. He sang about sweet dreams and quiet rest. His voice was like a soft, warm blanket covering the whole ocean.

As the last rays of sunlight disappeared, and the moon began to peek out, Finn felt his own eyelids growing heavy. His song became softer and softer, until it was just a tiny, sleepy hum.

He found a quiet, sandy spot near a tall coral castle. He took one last, long, slow breath. The ocean was quiet now, safe in its sleep. Finn gave a big, gentle yawn, tucked his big tail under him, and closed his own kind eyes. He was sound asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of soft waves and quiet stars, until the morning sun woke the ocean once more.
