A story for: Cleo, Age 7
Created July 24, 2026
Cleo loved the night. Not just any night, but the kind of night where the stars sprinkled across the sky like tiny, shimmering diamonds on a velvet cloth. Tonight was one of those nights.
She snuggled deep into her soft, blue blankets, which felt like fluffy clouds. Her favorite plush moon, Luna, was tucked gently under her arm. Cleo closed her eyes, but not for long. She imagined her bed was a spaceship, ready to float softly through the inky blackness above.
“Ready for launch, Luna?” Cleo whispered, her voice a soft puff against the quiet room. Luna, with her embroidered smile, seemed to nod in agreement.
Slowly, Cleo felt herself drifting, not from her bed, but in her mind. Her spaceship bed began its gentle journey. First, they floated past the fluffy white clouds, which looked like giant cotton balls, so close she could almost reach out and touch them. The air grew cooler, but inside her cozy spaceship, Cleo was perfectly warm.
Soon, they were above the clouds, and the stars burst into view, brighter and more numerous than she’d ever seen them from her window. Each one twinkled a hello, a tiny wink of light in the vast darkness. Some stars were fiery red, like distant campfires. Others were brilliant blue, like forgotten jewels. And many were golden, sparkling like spilled glitter.
Cleo steered her spaceship bed with her imagination, guiding it past swirling galaxies that looked like giant pinwheels made of stardust. She saw gentle planets, some rosy pink, others calm blue, spinning slowly in their orbits. They didn’t have scary monsters or loud noises, just quiet, peaceful turns, like dancers in a slow, silent ballet.
She imagined friendly aliens waving from a distant planet, their smiles made of light. They didn't speak, but their bright eyes communicated a warmth that made Cleo feel safe and welcome.
Her favorite part was floating through a field of sleepy asteroids. They weren't sharp or rocky, but smooth and round, like giant, ancient pebbles, drifting in a slow, silent river. She saw a cometary tail, long and flowing, like a shimmering silk scarf left behind by a celestial traveler.
As Cleo’s spaceship continued its journey, she felt a profound sense of peace. The vastness of space wasn't scary; it was comforting. Everything moved in its own gentle rhythm, a quiet hum that soothed her soul. The stars sang a silent lullaby, their light shimmering softly, painting dreams in her mind.
She yawned, a wide, contented yawn. Luna seemed to yawn too. The spaceship bed began its gentle descent, not back to her room, but deeper into the soft, starry dreams. Cleo closed her eyes one last time, feeling the gentle sway of her imagined journey, knowing that tomorrow, the stars would still be there, waiting for her next adventure. Her breathing slowed, even and deep, as she drifted into a peaceful, star-filled sleep.
