Mia's Gentle Wish

A story for: Mia, Age 4

Created July 11, 2026

The moon, round and soft like a fluffy marshmallow, peeked through Mia's window. It cast a gentle, silver glow on her cozy bed. Mia snuggled under her warm blanket, holding her softest teddy bear, Barnaby.

"Goodnight, Barnaby," she whispered, and Barnaby seemed to nod, his button eyes twinkling in the dim light.

Mia loved bedtime because that's when her favorite stories came to visit. Tonight, she thought about all the kind things that happened today. She remembered sharing her yummy crackers with her friend Leo at playtime. Leo had smiled a big, happy smile, and that made Mia feel warm inside.

She also remembered seeing a little bird trying to build a nest, but a tiny twig kept falling. Mia had gently picked up the twig and placed it near the bird, who then chirped a happy thank you song and quickly added it to its nest. Helping the bird felt good, like a tiny hug for her heart.

Mia closed her eyes and imagined all the kindness in the world. She saw children holding hands, sharing toys, and giving gentle pats to their pets. She saw grown-ups helping each other, and everyone smiling. It was like a beautiful, sparkly blanket woven with threads of love and understanding.

She remembered her Mommy telling her, "When you are kind, Mia, you make the world a little brighter for everyone, including yourself." Mia knew this was true because every time she was kind, a happy little butterfly fluttered in her tummy.

Now, as she lay in her bed, Mia made a special wish. She wished that tomorrow, she would find even more ways to be kind. Maybe she could help Grandma carry her basket, or draw a happy picture for her friend Lily. Her heart felt so full of these soft, kind thoughts.

The moon seemed to shine a little brighter, as if it heard Mia's gentle wish. The air in her room felt soft and warm. Mia yawned a tiny, sleepy yawn. Barnaby felt so fluffy in her arms. The happy butterfly in her tummy slowly drifted off to sleep too, tucked away for another day.

Mia took a deep, quiet breath. Her eyelids felt heavy, like two little clouds. She drifted off to sleep, dreaming of all the happy, kind things she would do tomorrow. And as she slept, a peaceful smile played on her lips, a testament to the gentle kindness that filled her world.
