A story for: Theo, Age 3
Created September 04, 2026
Once upon a time, in a cozy little burrow nestled under the biggest, fluffiest oak tree, lived a tiny bunny named Theo. Theo had soft, white fur, a twitchy pink nose, and ears that loved to listen to the whispers of the wind.
Tonight, it was bedtime, but Theo felt a little bit wobbly inside. The moon was peeking through his window like a sleepy eye, but the shadows in his room seemed to dance and play hide-and-seek, making him feel a tiny bit unsure.
Theo’s mommy bunny came in, her fur as warm as a sunbeam. "What's the matter, little brave heart?" she asked, her voice like a gentle lullaby.
Theo snuggled into her side. "The shadows are big, Mommy. They look like friendly monsters, but they're still big."
Mommy bunny smiled and gave Theo a big hug. "Ah, yes, the shadows like to play tricks, don't they? But guess what? We have something super special that helps us see the shadows for what they really are."
She reached into a little basket by Theo's bed and pulled out a beautiful, glowing lantern. It wasn't just any lantern; it was a brave bunny lantern! It had tiny little bunny ears on top and glowed with a warm, soft light, like a captured firefly.
"This is our brave bunny lantern," Mommy bunny explained. "It doesn't make the shadows go away, but it helps us understand them. See?" She turned on the lantern, and its gentle glow filled Theo’s room. The big, dancing shadows softened and looked much friendlier now. A shadow that looked like a monster before now looked like a wobbly tree branch. And another that looked like a grumpy bear now looked just like Theo's pajamas on his chair.
Theo giggled. "It's not a bear! It's my stripy PJs!"
Mommy bunny nodded. "That's right, little one. The brave bunny lantern helps us see things clearly. It reminds us that even when things look a little different in the dark, they are still safe and sound. Your own little light, right here in your room."
Theo held the lantern close. Its warmth felt comforting in his paws. He watched the soft light dance on the walls, making the shadows playful and kind. The wobbly feeling in his tummy floated away, replaced by a feeling of snuggly peace.
Mommy bunny sang a soft, sleepy song about a moonbeam and a happy little cloud. Theo closed his eyes, the gentle glow of his brave bunny lantern casting a warm hug around him. He took a deep breath, listening to his mommy’s sweet song, feeling so safe and loved. The brave bunny lantern sat beside him, a faithful little guard. And as the last notes of the song faded, Theo drifted off to sleep, dreaming of fluffy clouds and friendly shadows, all lit by his own brave little light.
