Wren the Whale's Lullaby

A story for: Wren, Age 6

Created October 29, 2026

Deep, deep in the big, blue ocean, lived a gentle whale named Wren. Wren wasn't like other whales who zoomed and played all day. Wren loved quiet, and most of all, Wren loved to sing.

Every evening, as the sun began to dip its toes into the water, painting the sky with soft pinks and oranges, Wren knew it was almost time for her special job. Wren's job was to sing the ocean to sleep.

First, Wren would take a very, very deep breath. Her big, gentle lungs would fill with the clean ocean air. Then, a soft, humming sound would begin, a sound that started deep in her heart and floated out into the water.

Her song wasn't loud or booming like a big ocean wave. No, Wren's song was soft and flowing, like a silken ribbon drifting through the water. It was a song that whispered secrets to the starfish and hummed lullabies to the little fishes.

The baby seahorses would cuddle closer to their parents as Wren's song drifted by. The busy crabs would slow their scuttling, their tiny eyes growing heavy. Even the playful dolphins would stop their flips and leaps, listening to the soothing melody.

Wren would swim slowly, gracefully, from one coral castle to another, making sure every corner of the ocean felt her gentle song. She sang of sparkling moonbeams dancing on the surface, of cozy kelp forests swaying gently, and of warm, safe currents carrying dreams.

As Wren sang, the ocean grew quieter and quieter. The little fish yawned wide, their tiny fins barely moving. The anemones folded their soft petals, and the shy octopuses pulled their long arms in close. A feeling of peace spread through the deep, blue world.

Finally, as the moon climbed high in the sky, a big, round pearl in the darkness, Wren's song became almost a whisper. She found a quiet, sandy spot among some glowing plankton. The plankton twinkled like tiny stars, casting a soft, sleepy light all around her.

Wren gave one last, soft hum, a sound that melted into the quiet. She closed her big, kind eyes, feeling the gentle sway of the water. The ocean was asleep, and soon, Wren was too, dreaming peaceful dreams of shimmering light and silent, sleeping seas.
