Sage and the Sleepy Moon

A story for: Sage, Age 3

Created October 19, 2026

Once upon a time, high above the soft green hills and sparkling rivers, lived a very special dragon named Sage. Sage wasn't like the big, roaring dragons you might see in pictures. Oh no! Sage was a small, gentle dragon with scales the color of a warm sunset and wings that shimmered like dewdrops. He loved to float among the clouds, watching the world below.

Every night, Sage would watch the big, round Moon climb into the sky. The Moon would shine so brightly, casting silver dust over everything. But lately, Sage noticed something. The Moon looked a little bit tired. Its glow wasn't quite as sparkly, and sometimes, Sage thought he saw the Moon yawn a tiny, moon-sized yawn.

Sage decided he needed to help his friend, the Moon. He flew up, up, up, higher than the tallest tree, higher than the fluffiest cloud, until he was right beside the Moon. "Hello, dear Moon," Sage whispered softly, so as not to startle it. "You look a little sleepy tonight."

The Moon blinked its big, gentle eye and let out a soft sigh. "Oh, Sage," it rumbled, a sound like a distant lullaby. "I am so tired. I have to shine all night long, and sometimes it's hard to remember how to drift off to sleep when the sun comes up."

Sage smiled. "I know just what to do!" he said. He took a deep, gentle breath, and instead of fire, a stream of warm, sparkly stardust floated from his nose. The stardust wasn't hot at all; it felt like a soft, cozy blanket.

Sage began to hum a quiet, sleepy tune, a song he often hummed to himself when it was time for his own nap. He gently blew the shimmering stardust around the Moon, like a thousand tiny, sleepy fireflies. The stardust twinkled and danced, wrapping the Moon in a soft, glowing embrace.

The Moon closed its eye, feeling the warmth of the stardust and hearing Sage's sweet, soft song. It felt so peaceful, so calm. The Moon's bright glow began to dim just a little, getting ready for its own quiet rest.

Sage continued to hum and blow gentle stardust until the Moon looked truly peaceful. "There, there, dear Moon," he whispered. "Now you can have the sweetest dreams." The Moon gave a tiny, happy rumble, already drifting off to sleep.

Sage felt a little sleepy himself after all that humming and stardust blowing. He found a very soft, fluffy cloud nearby and curled up on it. The world below was quiet and dark, lit only by the gentle, sleepy glow of the now-resting Moon. Sage closed his own eyes, feeling safe and warm, and drifted off into a peaceful sleep, dreaming of sparkly stardust and gentle moonbeams.
