Ivy and the Dream Lantern

A story for: Ivy, Age 3

Created November 07, 2026

Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy little burrow under a big, friendly oak tree, lived a tiny bunny named Ivy. Ivy had soft, white fur and the twitchiest little nose you ever did see. Every evening, as the sun began to dip below the sleepy hills, Ivy would get ready for her most important job.

Ivy was the keeper of the Dream Lantern. It wasn't just any lantern; it was a special, glowing orb that held all the lovely, happy dreams for everyone in the forest. When it was dark, the lantern would twinkle softly, sending out little whispers of joy and wonder.

Tonight, as the sky turned a gentle lavender and pink, Ivy hopped out of her burrow. She carefully picked up the Dream Lantern, which felt warm and smooth in her paws. It glowed with a soft, buttery light, not too bright, just perfect.

“Time to spread the dreams,” Ivy whispered to herself. She took a deep breath, smelling the sweet scent of night-blooming flowers. She began to hop along the mossy path, her lantern swinging gently, casting dancing shadows on the trees.

First, Ivy hopped to the sleepy owl’s nest. The owl was already tucked in, feathers fluffed. Ivy held the lantern up high, and a tiny, sparkly dream floated out. It was a dream of flying quietly through the moonlit trees, swooping and soaring. The owl gave a soft hoot in its sleep, a happy sound.

Next, she tip-toed to the babbling brook where the little fish were sleeping under smooth stones. She held the lantern near the water, and out came a dream of swimming with shimmering bubbles and finding delicious water plants. The fish wiggled their tiny fins happily.

Ivy continued her journey, sharing dreams with the sleepy squirrels dreaming of acorn feasts, and the sleepy hedgehogs dreaming of warm, snug leaf piles. Each dream was just right, making every creature feel safe and loved.

Finally, Ivy felt a little sleepy herself. The Dream Lantern had shared all its wonderful dreams, and its light was now just a soft, sleepy glow. Ivy yawned a big, wide bunny yawn. She hopped back to her cozy burrow, snuggling into her soft bed of dried leaves.

She placed the Dream Lantern carefully beside her. Its gentle warmth made her feel so peaceful. Ivy closed her eyes. The last little bit of the lantern's glow seemed to wrap around her like a warm blanket. She dreamt of all the happy dreams she had shared, and soon, Ivy was fast asleep, snuggled deep in her burrow, with the gentle glow of the Dream Lantern keeping her safe until morning.
