A story for: Eli, Age 5
Created October 08, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the world, lived a gentle little dragon named Eli. Eli wasn't like the big, roaring dragons you sometimes hear about in stories. Oh no, Eli was small, with scales the color of a soft lavender sunset, and wings that shimmered like a calm, quiet lake.
Every night, Eli would float among the stars, his heart full of warmth. He loved watching the world below as it drifted into slumber. But his favorite thing to do was to watch the Moon. The Moon was a very important friend, lighting up the night for everyone.
One special night, Eli noticed something. The Moon looked a little droopy. Its light wasn't as bright, and it seemed to sigh a very long, quiet sigh. Eli, with his kind heart, felt a little worried. He floated closer, his tiny nose almost touching the Moon's silvery surface.
“Moon, my dear friend,” Eli whispered, his voice like the rustle of soft leaves, “Are you feeling alright?”
The Moon blinked slowly. “Oh, Eli,” it rumbled softly, like a distant, sleepy wave. “I’m just so, so tired. I’ve been shining all night, every night, for so long. I wish I could just… close my eyes for a little while.”
Eli understood. Even the Moon needed to rest! He thought for a moment, his little dragon brain whirring with gentle ideas. Then, he had a perfect one!
“Don’t worry, Moon,” Eli chirped, his scales glowing a little brighter with his idea. “I know just what to do to help you fall asleep.”
First, Eli gathered the softest, fluffiest clouds he could find. He carefully piled them around the Moon, making a giant, cozy cloud bed. The Moon snuggled into it, letting out a soft hum of contentment.
Next, Eli flew to the quietest corners of the sky. He collected the softest whispers of the wind and the gentlest twinkles from the stars. He mixed them together, and then, he began to sing. His song was a lullaby, so quiet and sweet, about sleepy flowers and quiet streams and little bears tucked warmly in their dens.
The Moon listened, its light growing softer and softer. The cloud bed felt so warm, and Eli’s lullaby was like a soft blanket wrapped around it. Slowly, ever so slowly, the Moon’s eyes began to close. Its beautiful silvery light dimmed down to a gentle glow, like a sleepy nightlight.
Eli kept singing until the Moon was completely asleep, dreaming sweet dreams among the clouds. He smiled, a happy, peaceful smile. His job was done. The world below was now truly dark and quiet, ready for its own dreams.
Eli felt a gentle yawn stretch across his own little dragon mouth. He snuggled into a fluffy cloud nearby, his own scales now a very sleepy lavender. He closed his eyes, listening to the soft, quiet breathing of the sleeping Moon, and soon, Eli, too, was fast asleep, dreaming of peaceful stars and warm, gentle nights.
