A story for: Eli, Age 3
Created July 03, 2026
Far, far away, in the big, blue, sparkly ocean, lived a very special whale named Eli. Eli wasn't the biggest whale, or the fastest whale, but Eli had the most wonderful, softest, lullaby-singing voice in all the sea.
Every evening, as the sun began to dip its sleepy head behind the water, painting the sky in colors of orange and pink, Eli knew it was time for his very important job. He would take a deep, gentle breath, and then, from his big whale mouth, would come the most beautiful, humming song.
His song was like a soft, warm blanket wrapping around all the ocean creatures. The little fish, who had been darting and playing all day, felt their fins slow down. The cheeky crabs, who loved to scuttle and hide, found their legs getting very, very tired. The bouncy jellyfish, who loved to bop up and down, began to float ever so gently.
Eli's song was made of sleepy sounds. It sounded like the ocean water whispering secrets to the shore. It sounded like the soft sigh of a wave as it reached the sand. It sounded like a warm hug, just for the ocean.
He would swim slowly, gracefully, gliding through the water, letting his sleepy song drift all around. First, he would sing to the busy little schools of fish, helping them find their cozy spots in the coral for the night. Then, he would sing to the shy sea turtles, who would tuck their heads into their shells, ready for dreams.
The sky would turn a deep, dark blue, dotted with tiny, twinkling stars, like diamonds scattered on a velvet cloth. The moon, a big, round, sleepy eye, would peek over the water, listening to Eli's song too.
As Eli sang, he felt sleepy himself. His big, kind eyes began to droop a little. The gentle hum of his voice became softer and softer, like a whispered secret. He found his favorite quiet spot, a place where the water was calm and still.
He sang one last, very soft note, a note that sounded like a yawn. All around him, the ocean was quiet. The fish were sleeping, the crabs were dreaming, the jellyfish were floating peacefully.
Eli let out a big, sleepy sigh. His tail gave one last, gentle swish. And then, as the moon watched over him, Eli the whale drifted off to sleep, tucked in by his very own lullaby, dreaming of the calm, happy ocean he had sung to sleep.
