A story for: Arlo, Age 7
Created July 22, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy little room with a window looking out at the shimmering night, lived a boy named Arlo. Arlo had big dreams, as big and bright as the stars he loved to watch from his bed. Tonight, as the moon peeked through his curtains like a friendly eye, Arlo snuggled under his warm quilt, his mind buzzing with tomorrow's adventures.
He imagined building a magnificent castle out of sparkly blocks, taller than any he'd ever seen. He pictured himself soaring on the back of a friendly dragon, exploring secret gardens filled with giggling flowers. And in his biggest dream of all, Arlo imagined inventing a machine that could paint rainbows across the sky every single morning.
But as Arlo’s eyelids grew heavy, he sometimes worried. What if his dreams were too big? What if they were so grand that they wouldn't fit into his little room, or even his tomorrow?
Just then, a soft, silvery light twinkled above his bed. Arlo blinked, not quite sure if he was awake or already dreaming. Floating gently above him was a tiny, shimmering figure, no bigger than his thumb. It had wings like a dragonfly and held a tiny, glowing spindle in its hands. “Hello, Arlo,” whispered the figure, its voice like the gentle rustle of leaves. “I am the Star Weaver. I come to visit children with dreams as bright as yours.”
Arlo’s eyes widened. “The Star Weaver?” he whispered back, careful not to scare the delicate creature.
“Yes,” she hummed. “And I’ve come to tell you a secret about dreams. Your dreams, no matter how big, are never too big. In fact, they are like tiny seeds, and your heart is the most wonderful garden. Every time you dream a big dream, you plant a special seed.”
She gestured with her glowing spindle, and Arlo saw, shimmering faintly in the air, tiny, colorful seeds floating around his room. One was a bright blue, like his rainbow-painting machine. Another was a deep green, like the secret garden. And a magnificent gold, like his towering block castle.
“But how do they grow?” Arlo asked, feeling a warm, peaceful feeling spread through him.
“They grow with your imagination,” the Star Weaver replied. “Every time you think about your dreams, every time you imagine them, you water those seeds with your thoughts. And when you sleep, Arlo, that’s when the magic truly happens.”
She spun her spindle, and the silvery threads she wove seemed to gather the dream-seeds, gently wrapping around them. “While you rest,” she continued, “I take these seeds and weave them into the fabric of tomorrow. I spin them into the quiet moments, the bright ideas, and the happy surprises that wait for you. So when you wake up, a little piece of your dream is already there, ready to be discovered.”
Arlo felt a comforting warmth spread through his chest. His dreams weren't just thoughts; they were tiny gifts waiting to unfold. He watched as the Star Weaver continued to spin, her movements slow and calming, her tiny wings humming a soft lullaby.
The silvery threads shimmered, reflecting the moonlight, and Arlo felt his eyelids grow heavier and heavier. The Star Weaver gave him a gentle, knowing smile. “Sleep soundly, little dreamer,” she whispered. “Your big dreams are always safe, always growing, and always waiting for you.”
As Arlo finally drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, he imagined the Star Weaver carefully tucking his dreams into the soft, starry blankets of the night, ready for him to find them in the morning. And as he slept, a faint, beautiful rainbow seemed to glow softly in his mind, promising a bright and wonderful tomorrow.
