A story for: Ruby, Age 6
Created October 13, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled deep within a very green and sleepy jungle, lived a little girl named Ruby. Ruby had big, curious eyes and a heart full of wonder, especially at bedtime.
Tonight, as the sun dipped low, painting the sky with colors of warm orange and soft purple, Ruby snuggled into her bed. Her cozy blanket felt like a cloud, and her pillow was just right. She closed her eyes, and a magical thing happened – her bedroom turned into the jungle!
Ruby wasn't scared; she knew this jungle was a gentle, sleepy place. The air was filled with the sweet scent of night-blooming jasmine. Instead of the usual jungle sounds, she heard a soft, rhythmic hush, like a lullaby.
First, she saw a family of sloths, hanging upside down from a tree. They were moving very, very slowly, almost as if they were dancing in a dream. One little baby sloth yawned a tiny, sleepy yawn, its eyes fluttering closed. Ruby smiled; sloths knew all about taking it easy.
Next, a group of quiet butterflies, with wings like stained glass, fluttered past. They weren't darting and zipping, but drifting gracefully, each movement like a gentle sigh. They settled on large, soft leaves, their wings slowly folding as they prepared for their nighttime rest.
Ruby tiptoed further, and there, by a sparkling, calm pond, she saw a family of hippos. They weren't splashing or playing, but floating peacefully, their big bodies barely rippling the water. Their eyes were half-closed, and soft bubbles drifted up from their noses, like gentle whispers of a sleepy song. Even the baby hippo was snuggled close to its mom, breathing slowly and deeply.
As Ruby continued her journey, she noticed the fireflies. They weren't flashing brightly, but glowing with a soft, warm light, like tiny, sleepy lanterns. They twinkled gently, guiding her deeper into the quiet jungle.
She saw a wise old owl perched on a branch, its big eyes slowly blinking, taking in the peaceful night. It wasn't hooting loudly, but making a soft, comforting coo, a sound that promised sweet dreams.
Finally, Ruby found a perfect, mossy patch under a giant, ancient tree. The tree's leaves rustled with a sound like a gentle whisper, a sound that said, 'Rest now, little one.' Ruby lay down on the soft moss. The air was warm and smelled of earth and sweet flowers. The fireflies created a soft, warm glow around her. The gentle coo of the owl and the rhythmic hush of the jungle were the perfect lullaby.
Ruby's eyelids felt heavier and heavier. She thought about the sleepy sloths, the quiet butterflies, and the peaceful hippos. She took a deep, soft breath, just like the jungle. Her own little eyelids fluttered, just like the baby sloth's. She felt so safe, so warm, and so very, very sleepy. With a soft sigh, Ruby drifted off to sleep, dreaming of her gentle jungle adventure.
