Jude's Starry Slumber

A story for: Jude, Age 4

Created September 05, 2026

The moonbeams danced through Jude's window, making silver stripes on his cozy rug. It was time for his favorite part of the night: his space adventure story. Jude snuggled deep into his blankets, clutching his fluffy toy bunny, Pip, extra tight.

“Tonight, Jude,” his mom whispered, her voice soft and warm like a blanket, “we’re visiting a very special planet called Glimglam.”

Jude’s eyes, already a little sleepy, sparkled with wonder. “Glimglam?” he mumbled, yawning a tiny yawn.

“Yes, Glimglam,” Mom affirmed. “It’s a planet made entirely of soft, squishy clouds, like giant cotton balls floating in the sky. And guess what?”

Jude shook his head, his curls tickling his forehead.

“The clouds on Glimglam sing lullabies,” Mom explained. “Soft, gentle hums that float on the air, making everything feel peaceful and sleepy.”

Imagine, Jude, the softest, fluffiest cloud you’ve ever seen, big enough to bounce on like a trampoline, but so gentle that it just cushions you. When you land on a Glimglam cloud, it feels like a warm hug. And the air smells like warm milk and honey, sweet and comforting.

Jude imagined himself drifting on a cloud, Pip nestled beside him. He could almost hear the clouds humming. It was a sound like ‘mmmm-mmmm-mmmm,’ low and steady, making his eyelids feel heavy.

On Glimglam, there are no noisy alarms or bright lights. Just the soft glow of sleepy stars peeking through the cloudy sky, like tiny nightlights. The little Glimglam creatures, who look like fluffy puffballs with gentle, blinking eyes, snuggle down into their own cloud nests when the lullabies begin.

Jude felt his own puffball friends, his toes, wiggling happily under the covers. He imagined the little puffballs closing their eyes, just like him. The cloud lullabies grew softer and softer, like a secret whisper just for him.

The Glimglam clouds slowly drifted closer together, forming a giant, soft bed for everyone. Jude felt his own bed become extra soft and warm. The humming sound was like a gentle ocean, ebbing and flowing, rocking him gently. He felt himself sinking deeper and deeper into his mattress, almost as if he was floating on a Glimglam cloud himself.

His breathing became slow and steady. The last thing he heard was his mom’s voice, a soft, final hum, blending with the imagined cloud lullabies. Jude’s eyelids finally fluttered closed, a peaceful smile on his face. He was fast asleep, dreaming of fluffy clouds and sleepy stars, drifting on the sweet, humming air of Glimglam.
