Finn's Cloud Dream

A story for: Finn, Age 6

Created September 03, 2026

Finn snuggled deep into his cozy bed, his favorite blue blanket pulled right up to his chin. Outside his window, the last sliver of sunshine was fading, leaving behind a sky brushed with soft pinks and sleepy purples.

"Look, Mama," Finn whispered, pointing a small finger. "The clouds are going to sleep too."

Mama smiled, kissing his forehead. "They are, my love. But they have a very special bedtime routine, just like you."

Finn's eyes grew wide. "What do they do?"

"Well," Mama began, her voice as soft as a cloud itself, "first, the big, fluffy white clouds, the ones that look like cotton candy, gather together. They whisper about all the wonderful things they saw during the day. One cloud might have seen a squirrel burying a nut, another a little bird learning to fly. They share their happy memories, making them even happier."

Finn imagined a big, round cloud telling a story to a smaller, wispy one, both of them giggling silently in the sky.

"Then," Mama continued, "as the sky gets darker, the clouds change into their pajamas. The bright white ones turn into soft, grey sleepy clouds. They stretch and yawn, gently moving closer to each other to stay warm. Sometimes, they even huddle together to make a giant cloud bed, just for themselves."

Finn yawned, a tiny one that barely opened his mouth. He imagined the clouds snuggling up, just like he was snuggling in his bed.

"And when the moon comes out," Mama said, her voice getting even softer, "the moon acts like a gentle nightlight for the clouds. It casts a soft, silvery glow on them, making them shimmer ever so slightly. They drift very, very slowly across the sky, like boats on a quiet, calm ocean. Each tiny movement helps them relax even more."

Finn watched the real clouds outside, now just soft, dark shapes against the deepening blue. He imagined them floating, dreaming their cloudy dreams. Maybe they dreamed of being fluffy sheep, or maybe of being giant, friendly dragons made of mist.

"Finally," Mama murmured, stroking Finn's hair, "when everyone is asleep, even the little stars begin to twinkle, watching over the sleeping clouds. The clouds breathe in the quiet night air, and they breathe out soft, sleepy sighs. They get ready for another day of floating and playing in the sky. But for now, they are just peaceful and still, resting until the sun wakes them up again."

Finn's eyelids felt heavy, like tiny clouds themselves. He could almost feel himself floating, drifting gently, just like the clouds outside. He breathed in slowly, and out slowly, feeling warm and safe in his bed. The last thing he saw before his eyes closed was the faint, soft outline of a cloud, sleeping peacefully in the night sky. And then, Finn was asleep too, dreaming of fluffy, happy clouds.
