A story for: Milo, Age 6
Created September 03, 2026
Deep in the Whispering Woods, where the moss was soft as a cloud and the wildflowers twinkled like tiny stars, lived a brave little bunny named Milo. Milo had the fluffiest white tail and the wiggliest nose you ever did see. But Milo wasn't just any bunny; Milo was the keeper of the Dream Lantern.
The Dream Lantern wasn't like other lanterns. It didn't burn with a fiery flame. Oh no, it glowed with a soft, warm, shimmery light, like moonlight mixed with a gentle hug. This special light was what helped all the creatures in the Whispering Woods have the sweetest, calmest dreams.
Every evening, as the sun began to dip below the tall trees, painting the sky in shades of sleepy orange and soft purple, Milo would carefully take the Dream Lantern from its cozy nook. It hummed a quiet, happy tune in his paws.
Tonight, Milo hopped along the familiar path, his whiskers twitching as he sniffed the cool evening air. He passed by Mrs. Owl’s cozy hollow. "Good evening, Milo!" she hooted softly from her branch. Milo wiggled his nose in greeting, and a little flicker of golden light from the lantern drifted into her hollow, promising dreams of tasty berries and soft breezes.
Next, he tiptoed past the sleeping badger sett. Mr. Badger was already snoring a gentle rumble. Milo held the lantern a little closer, and its warm glow seeped into the earth, filling Mr. Badger’s dreams with visions of warm tunnels and juicy worms.
Milo then scampered to the tallest oak tree, where the little field mice lived in their tiny, leaf-covered homes. He carefully lifted the lantern high, and its gentle light sprinkled down like fairy dust, promising the mice dreams of cheese as big as mountains and endless fields of sweet corn.
As Milo made his way home, the stars began to pop out, one by one, like tiny diamonds on a velvet cloth. The moon, round and full, smiled down at him. Milo felt so happy knowing all his friends would have wonderful dreams. He snuggled into his own burrow, the Dream Lantern still glowing softly beside him. Its light filled his little home with warmth and peace.
He watched the light dance on the wall, thinking about the sleepy squirrels dreaming of acorns, and the little birdies dreaming of flying high in the blue sky. Milo yawned a tiny bunny yawn. The lantern’s soft glow made his eyelids feel heavy, like two little leaves falling gently to the ground. He snuggled deeper into his soft moss bed, feeling safe and warm. The last thing Milo saw before his eyes fluttered closed was the gentle, soothing light of the Dream Lantern, promising him the sweetest dreams of all.
