Ruby's Dream Machine

A story for: Ruby, Age 4

Created July 18, 2026

Ruby snuggled deep into her warm, soft bed. Outside her window, the moon was a friendly, round smile in the inky sky, and the stars twinkled like tiny diamonds.

Tonight, Ruby was going on a very special adventure, right from her bed! Her mommy had told her about a magical Dream Machine, hidden away in a secret part of her imagination. This machine didn't make toys or candy; it made the most wonderful, personalized bedtime stories, just for Ruby.

First, Ruby closed her eyes gently. She imagined a big, cozy room, filled with soft, glowing lights. In the middle of the room, there it was! The Dream Machine. It wasn't loud or clunky; it hummed with a soft, purring sound, like a happy kitten.

The machine had colorful buttons. "Hmm," Ruby thought, "what story do I want tonight?" She saw a button that looked like a fluffy white cloud. "Cloud story!" she whispered. With a gentle tap, a soft, shimmery light glowed from the machine.

Then, she saw a button shaped like a little bird. "Maybe a story about a little bird finding a cozy nest?" she wondered. She pressed the bird button, and a sweet, tinkling sound filled the air, like tiny bells.

The Dream Machine began to whir, very, very softly. Ruby imagined it collecting all her favorite things: the color pink, the smell of warm cookies, the sound of her mommy's lullaby, and the feeling of a big, soft hug. It was mixing them all together, like making the yummiest, most comforting cake.

A gentle voice, as soft as a whisper, began to speak in Ruby's mind. It was her own special story! It was about a little girl named Ruby who found a lost baby bunny in a field of sunflowers. Ruby carefully carried the bunny home, wrapped it in a warm blanket, and gave it a tiny carrot to nibble.

Ruby felt so happy and peaceful listening to her story. The bunny snuggled close to the little girl, and they both fell asleep under the biggest, brightest sunflower, safe and sound.

As the story played on, Ruby felt her eyelids growing heavier and heavier. The words were like a soft, warm blanket tucking her in. The Dream Machine hummed its last, gentle tune.

Ruby took a deep, sleepy breath. The little bunny was safe, and the sunflower was glowing softly. Ruby smiled in her sleep, dreaming of more adventures the Dream Machine would create for her tomorrow night. Her breath became slow and even, and she drifted off into a deep, happy sleep, ready for wonderful dreams.
