A story for: Milo, Age 6
Created November 04, 2026
High above the world, where the stars twinkled like tiny diamonds, lived a very special dragon named Milo. Milo wasn't like the big, roaring dragons you might see in exciting stories. Milo was small and gentle, with scales the color of a warm sunset and wings that shimmered like dewdrops. His favorite thing to do was float among the clouds, watching the world below.
Every night, Milo watched as the big, round moon climbed into the sky, casting its soft, silver light everywhere. But lately, Milo noticed something. The moon looked a little tired. Its light wasn't quite as bright, and it seemed to sigh a tiny, wispy sigh as it drifted across the night.
One evening, Milo decided to be brave. He flew a little closer to the moon, his heart doing a happy flutter-flutter. "Hello, dear Moon!" he whispered, his voice like the rustle of gentle leaves. "Are you alright? You seem a bit sleepy."
The Moon blinked its big, luminous eye. "Oh, little Milo," it rumbled softly, like a distant, sleepy thunder. "I am quite tired. It's a very long journey across the sky every night, and sometimes, I find it hard to truly rest before the sun comes up."
Milo thought for a moment. He loved helping. "I know!" he chirped. "I can sing you a lullaby! My mommy dragon used to sing me one, and it always made me feel so cozy and sleepy."
The Moon gave a soft, warm smile. "That would be lovely, Milo," it whispered, already looking a little more relaxed.
Milo took a deep breath, and in his gentlest dragon voice, he began to sing. His song wasn't loud or fiery. It was a soft, humming melody, like a gentle breeze rustling through sleepy trees. He sang about fluffy clouds drifting by, about quiet streams flowing over smooth stones, and about soft moss growing in a peaceful forest.
As Milo sang, the Moon's light grew softer and softer, like a warm blanket being pulled up high. Its edges seemed to blur, and its sleepy sighs turned into soft, contented hums. Milo saw the tiny, sleepy twinkles in the Moon's eye grow heavier and heavier.
Finally, with a last, long, gentle note, Milo finished his song. The Moon was now glowing with a very, very soft, sleepy light. It looked perfectly peaceful, drifting slowly through the velvety darkness, ready for a good night's rest.
Milo smiled, feeling warm and happy all over. He had helped his friend. He nestled himself onto a fluffy cloud, its softness like a giant cotton ball. The stars winked at him, as if to say, 'Good job, Milo!' He closed his own eyes, feeling the gentle sway of the cloud beneath him, and listened to the quiet, sleepy hum of the contented Moon. Soon, Milo, too, was fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of stars and soft moonbeams.
