Ivy and the Sleepy Moon

A story for: Ivy, Age 3

Created August 26, 2026

Once upon a time, high above the world where the stars twinkled like tiny diamonds, lived a very special, friendly dragon named Ivy. Ivy wasn't like the dragons in stories that roared and breathed big, hot fire. Oh no, Ivy was gentle and her scales were a soft, shimmery lavender. When she breathed, it was a warm, gentle puff of air, like a cozy blanket.

Every night, Ivy had a very important job. She helped the big, round moon fall asleep. You see, the moon worked very hard all day, making sure the world had light even when the sun was sleeping. By the time night came, the moon was often a little bit tired, but sometimes it just couldn't quite drift off to sleep.

Tonight, Ivy saw the moon looking a little restless. It was shining brightly, but it kept wiggling just a tiny bit. Ivy knew what to do. She gently flapped her big, soft wings and flew up, up, up, past the sleepy clouds and the winking stars, until she was right beside the big, silver moon.

“Hello, dear Moon,” Ivy whispered, her voice as soft as a cloud. “Are you ready for your sleepy time?”

The moon shimmered a little sigh. “Oh, Ivy,” it seemed to say, “I’m a bit too bright tonight. I can’t seem to close my eyes.”

Ivy smiled her kind dragon smile. “Don’t you worry, Moon. I’ll help you.” She took a deep breath, and instead of big, fiery smoke, a soft, lavender mist, smelling faintly of warm cookies and soft blankets, gently drifted from her nose. This mist was Ivy’s special sleepy mist. It wasn't sticky or cold; it was just a gentle, calming cloud that made everything feel peaceful.

The lavender mist floated around the moon, making its bright glow a little softer, a little dimmer. Then, Ivy began to hum a very soft, sleepy song. It was a tune that sounded like the rustle of leaves in a gentle breeze and the quiet whisper of a sleepy river. She hummed and hummed, and the moon, feeling the soft mist and hearing the sweet lullaby, began to droop its big, round eyelids.

Soon, the moon’s bright light became a soft, gentle glow, perfect for sleeping. It wasn't wiggling anymore; it was perfectly still and peaceful. Ivy watched as the moon's light became a sleepy glimmer, like a child’s nightlight.

“Goodnight, dear Moon,” Ivy whispered, giving it a gentle pat with her wing. “Sleep tight.”

Ivy then flew slowly back down, past the now gently sleeping moon, past the quiet stars. She snuggled into her own cozy cloud bed. Her lavender scales felt warm and her heart felt happy because she had helped her friend. As she closed her own eyes, she imagined the soft lavender mist and the gentle hum, and soon, Ivy, too, drifted off to sleep, dreaming of quiet nights and sleeping moons.
