A story for: Mia, Age 5
Created October 18, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the sleepy world, lived a kind little girl named Mia. Every night, Mia would watch the moon from her window. It was big and round and glowed like a friendly nightlight. But tonight, the moon looked a little different. It seemed… tired.
“Oh dear,” Mia whispered, “the moon needs to go to sleep too!” She wondered how she could help. Just then, a soft, warm breeze drifted through her window, carrying with it a scent of stardust and lavender. And there, floating gently, was a dragon. Not a scary, roaring dragon, but a dragon with scales that shimmered like moonlight, and eyes as soft as velvet.
“Hello, little Mia,” whispered the dragon, its voice like the rustling of leaves. “I am Luna, the Moon Dragon. And you are right, the moon is having a little trouble drifting off to sleep tonight.”
Mia’s eyes grew wide. “You can help the moon?” she asked, her voice a tiny flutter.
Luna nodded. “Yes, with a special lullaby. But I need a little help to make it just right. Would you like to sing with me?”
Mia, though a little shy at first, felt a warm glow in her heart. Helping the moon seemed like the most wonderful thing in the world. She nodded eagerly.
Luna gently swooped closer, and Mia felt as if she was floating on a cloud. Together, they looked up at the tired moon. Luna took a deep, gentle breath, and a soft, humming sound began to fill the air. Mia listened, and then, in her own small, sweet voice, she joined in.
They sang a song of soft clouds, of twinkling stars, of quiet dreams floating on a gentle breeze. Luna’s hum was like a warm blanket, and Mia’s voice was like a soft whisper of sleepy wishes. As they sang, the moon’s bright light began to dim just a little, a peaceful, sleepy glow replacing its tired shimmer. Its round face seemed to soften, like it was sighing a happy sigh.
Slowly, ever so slowly, the moon began to close its eyes. The stars around it twinkled even more brightly, as if they were saying, “Goodnight, dear moon.”
Luna smiled, a soft, knowing smile. “Thank you, little Mia,” she whispered. “Your kindness and your sweet voice helped the moon find its way to dreamland.”
Mia felt so happy and so sleepy. The air was filled with a calming quiet, and a gentle warmth spread through her. Luna gave her a soft, stardust hug before gently floating back towards the sleeping moon. Mia watched until Luna was just a tiny, shimmering dot.
She snuggled deep into her bed. Her eyelids felt heavy, so very heavy. The world outside her window was now bathed in the soft, quiet glow of a peacefully sleeping moon. Mia took a deep breath, and a soft, happy sigh escaped her lips. Soon, she too was drifting off, carried away on the gentle lullaby she had helped to sing, into a land of sweet and peaceful dreams.
