Jude's Story Star

A story for: Jude, Age 6

Created October 13, 2026

Once upon a time, in a cozy little house tucked under a blanket of sparkling stars, lived a very special boy named Jude.

Tonight, Jude was tucked snugly in his bed, but his eyes were still wide open. "Mummy," he whispered, "how do stories get made? Like, how does someone know what to say?"

Mummy smiled softly, stroking Jude's soft hair. "Well, my sweet boy, making a story is a bit like finding a special star in the night sky. You don't have to look for the brightest, biggest one. Sometimes, the softest, twinkliest star is just right."

Jude snuggled deeper into his pillow, listening. "So, where do you find this star?"

"You find it in your heart, little one," Mummy explained gently. "Every day, tiny little ideas float by, like dandelion seeds in the breeze. Maybe you saw a fluffy cloud shaped like a bunny today. Or maybe you heard the happy chirping of a bird outside your window. Those are like little story sparks."

"A bunny cloud!" Jude giggled quietly.

"Exactly!" Mummy agreed. "Then, you let those sparks glow a little. You might wonder, 'What if that bunny cloud could hop across the sky?' Or, 'What if that bird had a secret message to sing?' And just like that, you have a beginning."

"But what happens next?" Jude asked, his voice getting a little sleepier.

"Next, you let your imagination take flight, like a sleepy little owl soaring through the moonlit trees," Mummy whispered. "You think about who the bunny cloud might meet, or what the bird's secret message could be. Maybe the bunny cloud meets a friendly star, or the bird's song helps a sleepy flower open its petals."

Jude imagined a fluffy bunny cloud floating past the moon, winking at a sleepy, sparkly star.

"And then," Mummy continued, her voice a soft lullaby, "you let your story float gently towards a happy, quiet ending. Maybe the bunny cloud finds a cozy place to rest amongst the other clouds. Or perhaps the bird's song helps everyone feel peaceful and ready for sleep. The best stories, Jude, are like a warm hug for your mind."

Jude yawned a tiny yawn. He thought about his own story, a bunny cloud meeting a star. It felt warm and soft, just like his duvet.

"So, you see, Jude," Mummy murmured, leaning in to give him a kiss on his forehead, "everyone has a story star inside them. And when you're ready, that star will glow and help you tell your very own special tale."

Jude closed his eyes, a tiny smile playing on his lips. He imagined his own story star, twinkling softly in his heart, ready to guide him to dreams filled with bunny clouds and singing birds. As Mummy hummed a soft tune, Jude drifted off to sleep, feeling peaceful and loved, his own story star gently twinkling until morning.
