Remy and the Sleepy Moon

A story for: Remy, Age 4

Created July 09, 2026

Once upon a time, high above the world, lived a very special little dragon named Remy. Remy wasn't like other dragons you might imagine. He didn't breathe fire, and he certainly wasn't big or scary. Remy was small, with scales the color of a soft lavender flower, and his breath smelled like warm vanilla. His favorite thing to do was float gently among the stars, watching the world below.

One evening, as Remy was drifting by, he noticed something peculiar. The big, round moon, usually so bright and peaceful, looked a little... tired. Its light was flickering ever so slightly, like a candle about to go out. Remy, being a very kind dragon, felt a little worried. He floated closer.

“Hello, Moon!” Remy whispered, his voice like a gentle chime. “Are you alright? You look a bit sleepy.”

The Moon let out a soft sigh, a sound like a gentle breeze rustling through leaves. “Oh, Remy,” the Moon whispered back, its voice a soft hum. “I am so, so sleepy. I’ve been shining all night, every night, for a very long time. I wish I could just close my eyes and rest.”

Remy’s eyes, the color of a clear blue sky, twinkled with an idea. “Maybe I can help!” he said. He remembered how his mama dragon would sing him a special song when he was little and couldn't fall asleep. It was a song full of sleepy whispers and soft hums.

Remy took a deep, gentle breath, and began to sing. His song was quiet and soft, like the rustle of silk. He sang about fluffy clouds drifting by, about soft blankets and warm beds, about the quiet hum of crickets in the night. He sang about how good it felt to close your eyes and dream sweet dreams.

As Remy sang, he began to do something else special. He puffed out tiny, shimmery clouds from his vanilla-scented breath. These weren't just any clouds; they were sleep clouds! They floated gently around the tired Moon, soft and sparkling, like little pillows.

The Moon listened to Remy’s song, and felt the soft sleep clouds drift around it. Its bright light began to dim even more, not with sadness, but with a deep, peaceful sleepiness. Slowly, slowly, the Moon’s big, round face looked more and more relaxed. Its light became a soft, sleepy glow, just enough to guide the night creatures, but not too bright to keep anyone awake.

Finally, with a gentle, contented sigh, the Moon closed its eyes, or at least, it dimmed its light so much it looked like it was fast asleep. It rested, peaceful and still, surrounded by Remy's sparkly sleep clouds. Remy smiled, a small, happy dragon. He had helped his friend, the Moon, find some much-needed rest.

Feeling happy and a little sleepy himself from all the singing, Remy curled up on a soft, fluffy cloud nearby. He yawned a tiny, vanilla-scented yawn. The stars twinkled around him, a quiet lullaby. With the sleepy Moon glowing softly beside him, Remy closed his own eyes, and drifted off into a calm and peaceful sleep.
