A story for: Arlo, Age 4
Created October 11, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a valley as soft as a cloud, stood a beautiful castle. It wasn't a grand, pointy castle, but a gentle, round one, made of stones that glowed a soft honey color in the moonlight. This was the home of a very special little boy named Arlo.
Every night, just as the stars began to twinkle like tiny diamonds in the sky, Arlo would put on his favorite blue pajamas. They were as soft as a bunny's fur and made him feel safe and cozy.
Tonight, Arlo was snuggled deep in his big, comfy bed. His blankets were like a warm hug all around him. He listened very carefully, because his castle was a whispering castle. It didn't whisper secrets, oh no! It whispered lullabies.
The wind, which was just a gentle sigh, would tiptoe through the castle windows, making the curtains sway like slow-dancing leaves. Each rustle was like a soft 'shhh,' telling Arlo it was time to rest.
Arlo closed his eyes and imagined his castle. He pictured the big, friendly archway at the front, shaped like a happy smile. He thought of the quiet courtyard where friendly little fireflies would dance at dusk, leaving trails of light like sleepy stars.
He imagined the tall, sturdy walls, not to keep things out, but to keep him safe and sound inside. They were like giant, comforting arms wrapped around his home, humming a lullaby. The moon peeked through his window, casting a silver glow on his favorite teddy bear, Sir Snuggles, who was already fast asleep beside him.
Arlo took a deep, gentle breath, just like the castle walls were breathing with him. He heard the faint 'tap-tap-tap' of a sleepy rain shower starting outside, making a cozy sound on the castle roof. It was like a soft drum playing a sleepy song.
He imagined the little mice in the castle walls, all tucked into their tiny beds, dreaming of cheese. He pictured the friendly owls, perched high on the towers, blinking slowly and settling down for their own quiet sleep.
Arlo felt his eyelids grow heavier and heavier, like two little stones sinking softly. The whispers of the castle grew softer, too, becoming just a warm, sleepy hum in his ears. He snuggled deeper into his blankets, feeling completely safe and loved.
With a final, happy sigh, Arlo drifted off to sleep, dreaming of his gentle, whispering castle and all the peaceful night sounds within its walls.
