A story for: Wren, Age 3
Created September 12, 2026
Deep, deep in the big, blue, sparkly ocean lived a little whale named Wren. Wren wasn't just any whale; Wren had the most beautiful, softest singing voice you could ever imagine. When Wren sang, all the little fish would wiggle their tails just a little slower, and the seaweed would sway extra gently.
Every evening, as the sun dipped its sleepy head behind the ocean waves, it was Wren's special job to sing the ocean to sleep. Wren would take a deep, gentle breath, and then a soft, humming sound would bubble up from deep inside. It sounded like a warm hug, or a soft blanket, just for the water.
First, Wren would sing to the tiny, glimmering plankton, so small you could barely see them. Wren’s song would tell them, “Time to drift and dream, little friends.” The plankton would sparkle like sleepy dust, slowly, slowly settling down until the ocean felt calm and quiet around them.
Next, Wren would sing to the curious crabs, scuttling around on the sandy bottom. Wren’s song would whisper, “Tuck your claws in close, little ones.” The crabs would find their cozy nooks under the rocks, their tiny eyes growing heavy with sleep, until only the softest clicks could be heard, and then, silence.
Then, Wren would sing to the busy, playful dolphins. They loved to leap and splash, but when Wren’s lullaby reached them, they would slow their flips and dives. Wren’s song would tell them, “Rest your fins, my speedy friends.” The dolphins would swim closer to their families, nudging gently, until they floated like quiet shadows in the dimming light.
Even the big, strong sharks, who usually swam with such purpose, would feel Wren’s song. It wasn't a scary song, but a soft, warm feeling that told them, “Quiet your thoughts, my grand companions.” The sharks would find a comfortable spot to rest their long bodies, their mouths no longer open in a smile, but closed in peaceful slumber.
As Wren sang, the ocean water itself seemed to grow heavy and still. The waves on the surface became small, soft ripples, like someone gently stroking a fluffy kitten. The colors of the ocean changed from bright blue to deep, velvety purple, and then to a shadowy, calm navy.
Finally, Wren would sing the last, softest note, a long, low hum that felt like a goodnight kiss for the whole ocean. After singing everyone to sleep, Wren would feel very sleepy too. With a happy sigh, Wren would tuck a fin under a cozy piece of seaweed, close big whale eyes, and drift off to sleep, dreaming of all the happy, sleeping creatures in the big, blue, sparkly ocean.
