A story for: Eli, Age 3
Created October 23, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the world, lived a very special little dragon named Eli. Eli wasn't a big, fiery dragon. Oh no! Eli was a small, gentle dragon, with scales the color of a soft lavender flower, and wings that shimmered like dewdrops in the morning sun. His favorite thing to do was float among the clouds, watching the world below.
Every night, as the sun dipped down and painted the sky in oranges and pinks, Eli would get ready for his most important job. You see, the Moon, a big, round, friendly Moon, sometimes had trouble falling asleep. The stars would twinkle, the crickets would chirp their sleepy songs, but the Moon would stay wide awake, shining brightly.
One evening, Eli saw the Moon looking a little tired. “Oh dear,” Eli whispered, “Looks like our friend the Moon needs some help tonight.” Eli flapped his gentle wings and flew closer, his lavender scales glowing softly.
“Hello, dear Moon,” Eli said in a voice as soft as a whisper. “Are you having trouble drifting off to dreamland?”
The Moon sighed, a big, quiet sigh that made the clouds wobble. “Yes, little Eli,” the Moon rumbled gently. “My mind is just too full of stardust and the day’s adventures.”
Eli smiled. “Don’t you worry, I know just what to do.” He began to hum a very soft, sleepy tune. It was a tune he had learned from the gentle breeze as it rustled through the tall trees. As he hummed, he began to gently pat the Moon’s big, round cheek with his soft, lavender wing.
Pat, pat, went Eli’s wing. Hum, hum, went Eli’s sleepy song. The stars listened quietly, twinkling even softer. The night animals paused their playful games, listening to Eli’s calming lullaby.
The Moon’s bright glow began to dim, just a tiny bit. A sleepy yawn stretched across its face, and its eyes, usually so wide and bright, started to flutter closed.
Eli kept humming and patting. He thought about soft, fluffy clouds, and warm, cozy blankets, and all the gentle, sleepy things in the world. He sent all those sleepy thoughts to the Moon.
Slowly, very slowly, the Moon’s eyes closed completely. Its glow became a soft, peaceful shimmer, just enough to light the way for all the sleeping creatures below. The Moon was finally fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of quiet stardust and happy sky adventures.
Eli smiled, a happy, sleepy smile. His important job was done. He floated gently back to his own cloud, feeling very warm and cozy. He snuggled into the softest part of the cloud, tucked his lavender wings close, and with a soft little sigh, Eli closed his own eyes. He drifted off to sleep, dreaming of helping the Moon, and the quiet, peaceful night.
