Remy and the Sleepy Whale Song

A story for: Remy, Age 5

Created October 12, 2026

Deep, deep in the ocean, where the water was a soft, inky blue, lived a little whale named Remy. Remy wasn't like other whales who loved to splash and play tag all day. Remy loved to sing. But not loud, boisterous songs. Remy sang the softest, most gentle melodies imaginable.

Every night, as the sun dipped below the waves and painted the sky in shades of pink and orange, Remy would find a quiet, moonlit spot. He’d take a big, slow breath, and then, a beautiful, humming sound would float from his blowhole. It was a song made of whispers and gentle sighs, a song so peaceful it could lull even the busiest crab to sleep.

One evening, as Remy began his nightly lullaby, he noticed something new. A tiny little fish, no bigger than his own eye, was swimming closer and closer. The fish had sparkly scales and yawned a big, tiny yawn. It seemed to be listening intently to Remy's song.

Remy kept singing, his notes flowing like warm honey through the water. The little fish twirled around him, its movements becoming slower and slower. Soon, it wasn't twirling at all. It was just floating, perfectly still, its little fins barely moving. It was asleep!

Remy smiled, a big, gentle whale smile. He loved knowing his song could bring such peace. He imagined all the other sleepy sea creatures listening: the starfish tucked into sandy beds, the jellyfish softly drifting, and the seahorses holding onto their seaweed blankets.

As the moon climbed higher, casting a silvery path across the water, Remy's own eyelids started to feel heavy. His beautiful humming became softer and softer, like a faraway dream. The gentle rhythm of the ocean rocked him, and the coolness of the deep water felt like a soft blanket.

He sang one last, long, gentle note that shimmered and faded into the quiet night. Remy curled his big body into a cozy shape, his tail tucked in, and his fins relaxed. He closed his eyes, feeling safe and warm and loved. The sleepy whale song had worked its magic, not just for the little fish, but for Remy too. He drifted off to sleep, dreaming of starlit waters and the sweetest, most peaceful melodies.
