A story for: Zoe, Age 3
Created July 05, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy burrow under a big, friendly oak tree, lived a little bunny named Zoe. Zoe had soft, white fur, big, curious eyes, and twitchy pink nose. Every night, as the sky turned from orange to purple, Zoe would feel a little tingle in her whiskers. It was almost time for her special job.
Zoe wasn't just any bunny. Zoe was the keeper of the Dream Lantern. It wasn't a real lantern you could hold, oh no. It was a magical, glowy light that lived deep inside her heart. When it was time for all the little forest friends to sleep, Zoe's lantern would softly flicker on.
Tonight, Zoe hopped out of her burrow. The moon was a sleepy crescent, peeking through the leaves. "Time to light the dreams," she whispered to herself. She took a deep breath, and a warm, golden glow started to hum within her chest. It wasn't bright and dazzling; it was soft and gentle, like a firefly's dance.
First, Zoe thought of the little field mice. She imagined them dreaming of nibbling on sweet berries and playing hide-and-seek among the tall grass. As she imagined, her lantern glowed a little brighter, sending warm, sleepy whispers towards their tiny nests. "Sweet dreams, little ones," she murmured.
Next, she thought of the sleepy squirrels, tucked away in their tree hollows. She pictured them dreaming of finding the biggest, tastiest acorns and chattering happily with their squirrel families. Her lantern pulsed with a comforting light, wrapping around their dreams like a soft, warm blanket.
Then, Zoe looked up at the big, sleepy owl perched high on a branch. She knew the owl was dreaming of soaring through the night sky, its wings silent and strong. Her lantern glowed a steady, peaceful yellow, guiding the owl to its calmest, deepest sleep.
Even the little sleepy fish in the pond needed a dream. Zoe thought of them dreaming of floating gently, their scales sparkling under the water, no worries at all. Her lantern sent tiny, shimmering lights down to the pond, making the water feel extra cozy and safe.
When all the forest friends were dreaming their happiest dreams, Zoe felt her own little eyes begin to droop. Her special lantern had done its job. The golden glow inside her heart began to soften and dim, leaving behind a peaceful warmth.
She hopped back into her burrow, snuggling into her soft, mossy bed. The last flickers of her dream lantern were just enough to light her own way to dreamland. Zoe closed her eyes, feeling safe and loved. She yawned a tiny bunny yawn, and soon, she was fast asleep, dreaming of fluffy clouds and sunny meadows, her little heart glowing with soft, happy dreams until morning came.
