A story for: Sage, Age 6
Created July 27, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy little house with a big, soft bed, lived a sweet girl named Sage. Sage loved to draw and dream, and her favorite thing to do was imagine all the wonderful things she would grow up to be.
Tonight, as the moon peeked in through her window like a friendly nightlight, Sage snuggled under her warm blanket. She thought about her favorite sunflower in the garden. It had started as a tiny seed, no bigger than her pinky nail. Now, it stood tall and bright, reaching for the sun each day.
Sage closed her eyes and imagined she was a little seed too, just like the sunflower. She pictured herself tucked safely in the warm, soft earth. It was dark and peaceful there, and she felt a gentle hug from the soil all around her. She wasn't worried about being small; she knew that every big thing started small.
Slowly, in her imagination, Sage felt a tiny, tickly sprout begin to push out from her seed-self. It was so small, almost invisible, but it was there. It stretched a little, then a little more, reaching up, up, up towards a tiny hint of light far above. It took time, and it took patience, but her little sprout didn't rush. It just kept growing, steady and sure.
As her sprout grew taller, Sage imagined feeling the warm sun on her leaves, and a gentle breeze making them dance. She pictured her roots growing deeper into the earth, making her strong and stable. She wasn't a giant tree yet, or a blooming flower, but she was growing, and that was the most important part. Each day, her imaginary plant grew a tiny bit more, just like she did.
Sage thought about all the things she learned each day. How to tie her shoes, how to draw a new animal, how to share her toys. Each new thing was like a little sip of water for her imaginary plant, helping it grow taller and stronger. Sometimes, things were a little tricky, like when she tried to learn a new song on her tiny keyboard. But even those tricky moments were like a gentle rain, helping her roots grow deeper and her stem stand a little straighter.
Sage smiled softly. She wasn't in a hurry to be all grown up. She knew that every day, in her own way, she was growing. Her heart was growing bigger with kindness, her mind was growing with new ideas, and her little body was growing taller and stronger. Just like her imaginary sprout, she was becoming more of herself with each passing day.
The moon was shining a little brighter now, casting silvery patterns on her wall. Sage felt her eyelids grow heavy. She felt safe and loved, like her little seed, tucked away and ready to grow. With a soft sigh, Sage drifted off to sleep, dreaming of sunny days and all the wonderful growth that awaited her.
