A story for: Sage, Age 6
Created August 08, 2026
Far, far away, beneath the shimmering surface of the great blue ocean, lived a kind and gentle whale named Sage. Sage wasn't like other whales who might splash and play loudly. Sage loved to sing. Not just any songs, but lullabies.
Every evening, as the sun began to dip its toes into the water, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, Sage knew it was time for her special job. Her job was to sing the ocean to sleep.
First, she'd take a deep, slow breath, feeling the cool water fill her mighty lungs. Then, a soft, humming sound would begin to escape her, growing into a beautiful, low melody that drifted through the currents. It was a song made of gentle waves, of the quiet sway of seaweed, and the soft sparkle of starlight reaching down into the deep.
The little fishes, darting about all day, would slow their wiggles. Their fins would flutter just a little slower, their eyes would blink a little heavier. They'd find a cozy spot amongst the coral, tucking their tiny tails in close.
The busy crabs, who usually scuttled sideways with a click-clack, would pause their explorations. They'd settle down in their sandy burrows, pulling their legs in tight, listening to Sage's soothing tune.
Even the big, strong turtles, who swam for miles and miles, would feel a peaceful calm wash over them. They'd find a soft patch of kelp to rest upon, letting the gentle current rock them ever so slightly, as Sage's song whispered around them.
Sage swam slowly, her big body gliding gracefully through the darkening water, her song flowing out like a warm, invisible blanket over everything. She sang of quiet dreams, of stars twinkling far above, and of the soft, rhythmic hush of the ocean breathing in and out.
As the last rays of sunlight faded completely, and the moon began its sleepy climb into the sky, Sage's song grew softer and softer. Her melody became a whisper, a gentle 'shhh' that told the whole ocean it was safe to rest. All the ocean creatures, from the tiniest plankton to the biggest sharks (who also needed their sleep!), were now settled, their eyes closed, dreaming their peaceful ocean dreams.
Sage herself felt a wonderful tiredness. Her own song had lulled her too. She found a quiet, deep part of the ocean, where the water was especially still. With one last, soft hum, Sage closed her own big, kind eyes. She drifted, weightless and serene, until she too was fast asleep, dreaming of tomorrow's peaceful dawn.
