A story for: Arlo, Age 4
Created October 02, 2026
Once upon a time, in a house filled with soft, happy sounds, lived a little boy named Arlo. Arlo had the coziest bedroom in the whole wide world. It had a window that looked out at the twinkly stars and a special rug that felt like a fluffy cloud under his toes.
Tonight, as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in soft pink and purple, Arlo was getting ready for bed. He had put away his building blocks, stacking them neatly like tiny sleepy soldiers, and tucked his favorite stuffed giraffe, Gigi, into her own little blanket on his pillow.
Arlo’s mom helped him put on his soft, striped pajamas. They felt like a warm hug. He snuggled into his bed, pulling his duvet up to his chin. The room was bathed in the gentle glow of his little star-shaped nightlight, making dancing shadows on the wall.
“Goodnight, Arlo,” his mom whispered, giving him a gentle kiss on his forehead. “Sweet dreams.”
As his mom tiptoed out, Arlo closed his eyes, but he wasn’t quite sleepy yet. He listened to the quiet sounds of the house. He heard the soft tick-tock of the clock in the hall and the gentle rustle of leaves outside his window. It was a comforting symphony of sleepy sounds.
Arlo opened his eyes just a little. He looked around his room. His favorite blue teddy bear, Barnaby, sat on his shelf, looking very sleepy himself. The picture on his wall, of a happy little bunny jumping over a moon, seemed to glow in the soft light.
He imagined his room was a giant, friendly cloud, floating gently through the night sky. His bed was a super soft nest, and he was a tiny, warm bird, nestled safely inside. He thought about all the good things that happened today: building a tall tower, giggling with his dad, and eating a yummy strawberry.
Arlo took a deep, slow breath in, and then a long, gentle breath out. He did it again, feeling his chest rise and fall like a tiny wave on a calm ocean. Each breath felt a little bit softer, a little bit slower. The star-shaped nightlight seemed to twinkle even more gently now, like it was whispering sleepy secrets.
His eyelids felt heavier and heavier, like two little curtains slowly closing. The soft glow of his nightlight started to blur, and the shapes in his room became warm, fuzzy patches. He snuggled deeper into his bed, feeling the softness of his pillow and the warmth of his blanket. Barnaby and Gigi were already fast asleep in his dream world, and Arlo was ready to join them.
He gave a tiny, contented sigh. His breathing became even and peaceful. And then, Arlo drifted off to sleep, tucked safely and warmly in his cozy bedroom, ready for wonderful dreams.
