A story for: Sage, Age 3
Created September 07, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the soft green hills and sparkly streams, lived a very special dragon named Sage. Sage wasn't like the big, fire-breathing dragons you might hear about in other stories. Oh no, Sage was a little dragon, and instead of fire, he breathed out tiny, warm twinkles of light, like fireflies dancing in the air. His scales were the color of a gentle sunset, all soft oranges and purples.
Every night, just as the stars began to peek out, Sage would fly up, up, up into the inky blue sky. He loved to watch the world go to sleep. The flowers would close their petals, the little bunnies would snuggle into their burrows, and the birdies would tuck their heads under their wings.
But Sage noticed something peculiar. The Moon, big and round and silver, sometimes looked a little tired. She would yawn a great big, silent yawn, and her light would flicker just a tiny bit, like a candle trying hard to stay lit.
One evening, Sage flew closer to the Moon. “Hello, dear Moon,” he whispered, his voice as soft as a cloud. “Are you feeling sleepy?”
The Moon sighed a long, sleepy sigh. “Oh, Sage, I am so very sleepy,” she murmured. “But I have to stay awake all night to shine my light for everyone. How can I ever rest?”
Sage thought for a moment. He knew just what to do! He floated close to the Moon, and with a gentle puff, he blew out a cloud of his warm, twinkly lights. The lights danced around the Moon, soft and glowing, like a thousand tiny lullabies.
Then, Sage began to hum a tune, a very quiet and gentle tune, like the wind whispering through sleepy leaves. He sang about fluffy clouds drifting by, about quiet streams gurgling softly, and about dreams as sweet as honey.
The Moon’s round face began to look even softer. Her bright light dimmed just a little, becoming a warm, comforting glow. The twinkly lights Sage had blown out settled all around her, like a soft, sparkly blanket.
“Thank you, dear Sage,” the Moon whispered, her voice almost a sigh. “I feel so… so very sleepy now.” And slowly, ever so slowly, the Moon closed her big, round eyes, just for a little while, knowing Sage was there to watch over her.
Sage smiled, a happy, sleepy dragon smile. He continued to hum his soft song, and the warm twinkly lights kept the Moon company. He stayed there for a long time, watching the sleeping Moon, until he, too, began to feel his own eyelids grow heavy.
He thought of his cozy cloud bed, soft and fluffy, waiting for him. He imagined snuggling down, warm and safe. Sage blew one last, gentle puff of twinkly light towards the Moon, a sleepy goodnight kiss. Then, with a slow, graceful flutter of his wings, he drifted downwards, his own body feeling heavy and warm.
As Sage neared his cloud bed, he let out a little yawn, just like the Moon had. He tucked his head under his wing, feeling the soft cloud all around him. The stars twinkled above him, like tiny night lights. Soon, Sage was fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of helping his friend, the sleepy Moon, and feeling very, very peaceful.
