Luna's City Lullaby

A story for: Luna, Age 3

Created July 10, 2026

Once upon a time, in a city full of soft, twinkling lights, lived a little girl named Luna. Luna loved her city. She loved the big, friendly buildings that stood tall like gentle giants, and the little yellow taxis that hummed soft songs as they drove by.

Tonight, Luna was getting ready for bed. Her mommy had just tucked her in, and the window was open just a tiny bit, letting in the cool, night air. Luna snuggled under her warm blanket, her favorite teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles, tucked beside her.

She looked out her window. The city was glowing. The streetlights blinked on, one by one, like sleepy eyes opening to see the night. "Hello, streetlights!" Luna whispered. They seemed to twinkle a 'hello' back.

Far below, the cars looked like little colorful beetles, driving slowly home to their cozy garages. Their headlights were like fireflies, dancing in a line. Luna imagined they were all going to their own soft beds, just like her.

Above the buildings, she could see the big, round moon, hanging in the sky like a giant, happy cookie. It cast a soft, silvery glow on everything. The moon was so peaceful, watching over the whole city while everyone slept.

Luna closed her eyes for a moment and listened. She could hear the very faint, faraway sound of a train. Choo-choo, went the train, a soft, steady rhythm, like a lullaby for the city. It sounded like it was rocking all the little train cars to sleep.

She imagined the big city buildings were also going to sleep. Their bright office lights were turning off, one by one, until only a few little dots of light remained, like nightlights for the sleeping giants.

The gentle breeze tickled her nose. It smelled like fresh air and a little bit like the sweet flowers in the park. Luna took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. She felt so warm and safe in her bed.

Mr. Snuggles was already very sleepy. His little button eyes were almost closed. Luna gave him a gentle pat. "Goodnight, Mr. Snuggles," she mumbled. "Goodnight, city."

The moon seemed to shine a little brighter, and the distant train hummed a little softer. Luna’s eyelids felt heavy, heavy, heavy. The city outside her window was a beautiful, peaceful place, and it was getting ready to sleep, just like her. With a soft sigh, Luna drifted off to sleep, dreaming of twinkling lights and happy, sleeping buildings.
