A story for: Jude, Age 7
Created September 16, 2026
Deep in a cozy, moss-lined burrow, lived a little bunny named Jude. Jude wasn't just any bunny; Jude was a brave bunny, with soft brown fur and the wiggliest nose in the whole Meadow of Whispering Willows.
Tonight, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of sleepy lavender and gentle rose, Jude snuggled deeper into a bed of soft clover. A tiny yawn stretched across Jude's face. But before sleep could fully arrive, Jude's eyes twinkled with a question. "Mama Bunny," Jude whispered, "what happens when the stars come out?"
Mama Bunny stroked Jude's head with a warm paw. "Ah, little one," she hummed, "when the stars appear, they sprinkle magic dust all over the world. That dust helps brave bunnies like you dream the sweetest dreams."
Jude imagined the star dust, shimmering and sparkling. "Can I catch some of it?" Jude asked, already feeling a little bit sleepy but very curious.
"You don't need to catch it, my love," Mama Bunny chuckled softly. "It floats right down to you, especially when you close your eyes and listen to the quiet of the night."
Jude decided to try. Jude closed those bright, curious eyes, and listened. First, there was the gentle whisper of the wind through the tall grass, like a lullaby. Then, the soft chirping of crickets joined in, a steady, comforting rhythm. Jude could almost feel the cool, fresh air coming into the burrow, carrying the scent of damp earth and sweet night-blooming flowers.
In Jude's mind, a picture began to form. Jude was hopping through a field of moonbeams, each hop as light as a feather. The star dust was falling all around, not like glitter, but like tiny, warm sparks that tickled Jude's whiskers. With every spark, Jude felt a little braver, a little calmer.
Jude saw a friendly firefly blink its light, guiding the way through a gentle forest of sleepy buttercups. The leaves on the trees shimmered with a soft, silver glow, and the ground was a cushion of velvet moss. There were no scary shadows, only peaceful, dreamy shapes.
Jude found a special spot under a giant, glowing mushroom, its cap a soft, inviting orange. Jude snuggled down, feeling the warmth from the mushroom seep into Jude's fur. The star dust continued to fall, making Jude's eyelids feel heavy, so very heavy. Mama Bunny's words echoed gently in Jude's mind: 'It floats right down to you.'
Jude took a deep, peaceful breath. The firefly blinked once more, a final, soft goodbye. The chirping crickets seemed to slow, their song becoming a distant, hushed hum. Jude's little brave bunny heart felt full of warmth and peace. The world outside the burrow was safe and sound, and Jude was safe and sound, tucked away in a dream of stars and moonbeams. And with a final, contented sigh, Jude drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, ready for all the wonderful dreams the star dust would bring.
