Finn's City Dreams

A story for: Finn, Age 4

Created October 03, 2026

Once upon a time, in a cozy little apartment high up in a tall, tall building, lived a curious little boy named Finn. From his window, Finn could see the whole city, sparkling like a giant, magical toy box.

Tonight, as the sun dipped down and painted the sky in shades of orange and soft purple, Finn snuggled into his bed. He watched as the city lights began to twinkle, one by one, like sleepy stars waking up for the night.

He saw the big yellow taxi cabs zoom by, looking like happy fireflies with their bright headlights. “Beep-beep!” Finn whispered, imagining the taxis saying goodnight to each other as they drove home.

He saw the big red buses, like friendly giants, slowly making their way along the streets, carrying sleepy people home to their warm beds. Finn imagined they were saying, “Hush, hush,” as they rolled by.

Up high, even higher than Finn’s window, he could see the airplanes, little dots of light blinking in the dark sky. They looked like sleepy birds, flying home to their nests in the clouds. "Goodnight, airplanes," Finn yawned.

Even the big tall buildings, which stood so straight and strong all day, seemed to be getting ready for bed. Their windows, once bright with the hustle and bustle of the day, were now dimming, one by one, like sleepy eyes closing. The city was whispering, “Shhh, it’s time to rest.”

Finn listened to the soft sounds of the city at night. The distant hum of cars, like a gentle lullaby. The soft whoosh of the wind, like the city breathing slowly. Everything was peaceful and calm.

He thought about all the other little boys and girls in their beds, in all the other tall buildings, listening to the same quiet city sounds. They were all getting ready for sweet dreams, just like him.

Finn’s eyelids started to feel heavy, just like the big buildings that were closing their eyes. He imagined the city was a giant, warm blanket, tucked all around him, keeping him safe and sound.

With a soft sigh, Finn snuggled deeper into his pillow. The city outside his window continued its gentle, sleepy hum. And as the last few lights in the city slowly dimmed, Finn closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep, ready for his own wonderful city dreams.
