Wren's Bedroom Adventure

A story for: Wren, Age 7

Created September 27, 2026

Wren loved her bedroom more than anywhere else in the whole wide world. It wasn't just a room; it was a cozy, secret kingdom where all her favorite things lived. As the last sliver of sunlight peeked through her window, painting the wall a soft peach, Wren snuggled deeper into her bed.

Her fluffy white blanket, which she called 'Cloud,' felt like a warm, gentle hug. Her pillow, 'Dream Fluff,' was just right, molding perfectly to her head. Wren lay very still, listening to the quiet sounds of her house settling down for the night. The gentle tick-tock of the clock on her nightstand sounded like a tiny, friendly heartbeat.

She looked around her kingdom. First, she noticed her teddy bear, Barnaby, sitting patiently on his special chair. Barnaby always looked so wise, with his slightly worn nose and one eye that was a little crooked from so many adventures. Wren gave him a sleepy wave. "Goodnight, Barnaby," she whispered.

Next to Barnaby, on her bookshelf, stood her collection of storybooks. Each one held a world of magic and wonder. Wren imagined the characters inside, tucked into their own paper beds, dreaming of their next big adventure. She smiled, thinking of the brave knight, the clever fox, and the giggling fairy.

Her eyes drifted to the glowing stars that stuck to her ceiling. Mama had put them up last year, and they twinkled softly, like tiny nightlights. Tonight, they seemed to shimmer even brighter, as if winking just for her. Wren pretended she was floating among them, a little astronaut in her own bed-rocket, soaring through a sky of velvet blue.

She took a deep, slow breath, just like Mama taught her. In through her nose, counting to four, holding it, and then out through her mouth, like letting out a soft, sleepy sigh. Each breath felt like a gentle wave, rocking her closer to sleep.

The air in her room smelled sweet, a little like the lavender spray Mama misted on her pillow, and a little like the fresh, clean sheets. It was a comforting smell, a 'home' smell.

Wren closed her eyes, but not completely. She kept them just a tiny crack open, peeking at the soft glow of her nightlight. It cast a warm, friendly circle on the wall, chasing away any shadows. Her room felt safe and warm, like a giant, soft nest.

Her thoughts began to swirl, not like a whirlwind, but like soft, fluffy clouds. She thought of Barnaby and his crooked eye, of the storybook characters dreaming, and of the twinkling stars. Her breathing became slower, deeper. The tick-tock of the clock seemed to fade, replaced by the quiet hum of her own peaceful sleepiness.

Wren snuggled deeper into Cloud, her body feeling heavy and relaxed. The gentle waves of her breath carried her away, further and further, until she was finally drifting into the land of dreams, safe and sound in her beloved bedroom kingdom.
