A story for: Finn, Age 7
Created August 29, 2026
Deep in the valley, nestled between the soft, rolling hills, stood the Whisper-Wind Castle. It wasn't a grand, towering castle with knights and dragons, but a cozy, gentle one made of smooth, warm stones that glowed faintly at sunset. Tonight, as the last sliver of orange dipped below the horizon, Finn was tucked snug in his bed in the highest turret.
Finn loved his room. Its round window looked out over the quiet forest, where the trees whispered secrets to the evening breeze. He could just hear them now, a soft *shhh-shhh-shhh* as the leaves danced. His bed was a big, comfy cloud, piled with blankets that felt like warm hugs.
Tonight, Finn was thinking about all the lovely things in his castle. He thought about the smooth, cool stone of the spiral staircase that led up to his room, worn soft by countless gentle footsteps. He remembered the little hidden nook in the library, where the dust motes danced in the sunbeams, and the smell of old, friendly books filled the air.
He pulled his favorite blanket, the one with tiny stitched stars, up to his chin. The stars seemed to wink at him, just like the first real stars beginning to pop out in the darkening sky outside his window. A sleepy owl hooted softly in the distance, a comforting *hoo-hoo*, like a lullaby.
Finn imagined the castle settling down for the night too. The kitchen would be quiet, the fire in the great hall just a few glowing embers, and even the little mouse family in the walls would be snuggled in their beds. He pictured the strong castle walls, keeping everyone safe and sound.
He closed his eyes and listened. The whisper-wind seemed to sing a special song just for him, a peaceful melody that swayed through the trees and around the castle stones. It was a song about quiet dreams and happy thoughts. Finn felt his eyelids grow heavy, so very heavy. He took a deep, soft breath, and then another.
He imagined he was floating on a cloud, gently drifting through the velvet night sky, past the winking stars and the sleepy moon. The whisper-wind hummed a final, soft note. Finn snuggled deeper into his cloud-bed, a happy, peaceful smile on his face, as he drifted off to sleep.
