Eli's City Lullaby

A story for: Eli, Age 4

Created October 01, 2026

Once upon a time, in a city filled with soft, twinkling lights, lived a little boy named Eli. Eli loved his city very much. During the day, it was busy and bright, full of happy sounds like giggling children in the park and friendly buses humming along the streets.

But now, it was nighttime. Eli was tucked snugly in his bed, listening to the city’s gentle bedtime sounds. His window looked out at the tall buildings, which now wore tiny necklaces of light, like sparkly giants waiting for the moon to rise even higher.

He closed his eyes a little, imagining he could hear the city whispering goodnight. The big clock tower, usually so loud with its ‘tick-tock,’ was now making a very quiet, sleepy ‘tock… tock…’ sound. It was like it was saying, ‘Shhh, it’s time to rest.’

Eli thought about the little yellow taxis, which had been buzzing like busy bees all day. Now, they were all parked neatly, dreaming of morning adventures. The big bright streetlights, which had been helping everyone see their way, were now just softly glowing, like nightlights for the whole city.

Even the wind, which sometimes played chase with the leaves in the park, was now just a soft, gentle breath against his window. It sounded like the city was humming a lullaby, a quiet, soothing song just for Eli.

Eli snuggled deeper into his cozy blanket. He pictured the little river that flowed through the city, now calm and still, reflecting the moon like a silver ribbon. The boats that sailed on it during the day were all tied up, gently rocking, dreaming of sunny skies.

He felt so warm and safe in his bed. The city outside was getting sleepier and sleepier, just like him. All the happy, busy sounds of the day had softened into a gentle murmur, a quiet hum that made his eyelids feel heavy.

Eli imagined all the lights on the buildings dimming, one by one, like tiny stars winking goodnight. The moon peeked through his window, casting a soft, sleepy glow on his favorite teddy bear.

He yawned a tiny, quiet yawn. The city’s lullaby was working its magic. Eli closed his eyes, and with the gentle hum of his sleeping city all around him, he drifted off into a peaceful, happy sleep.
