The Dragon Who Tucked In The Moon

A story for: Ava, Age 4

Created September 15, 2026

Once upon a time, high above the sleepy town where little Ava lived, there was a big, round moon named Luna. Luna loved to shine and twinkle, but sometimes, when it was very, very late, Luna would feel a little bit sleepy herself.

One night, Luna was so tired that her light started to flicker. It was like she was trying to keep her eyes open, but they just wanted to close. Down below, Ava was getting ready for bed. She looked out her window and saw the moon looking a little wobbly. "Oh dear," Ava whispered, "Luna looks sleepy!"

Just then, a friendly dragon with scales the color of a soft sunset, and big, kind eyes, floated gently past Ava's window. His name was Sparkle, and he was the moon's very best friend. Sparkle heard Ava's worry. "Don't you fret, little one," Sparkle rumbled, his voice like a warm, comforting hug. "Luna just needs a little help to fall asleep."

Sparkle flew up, up, up, until he was right beside Luna. He smiled his biggest, kindest dragon smile. "Hello, Luna," he whispered, "It's time for you to rest your sleepy head."

Luna let out a little yawn, a silent, sparkly yawn that made a few stars blink extra bright. "I'm just so wide awake, Sparkle," she murmured, her light dimming a tiny bit more.

Sparkle knew just what to do. He gently unfurled one of his great, soft wings. It was like a giant, shimmering blanket, warm and cozy. He draped it ever so carefully over a tiny part of Luna, as if tucking her in for the night. "Shhh," he whispered, his voice soft as a cloud. "Close your eyes, sweet Luna. Dream of happy starlight."

Then, Sparkle began to hum a very quiet, very gentle lullaby. It wasn't a loud song, but a soft, humming tune that made the night air feel even more peaceful. The lullaby floated all around Luna, wrapping her in its soothing sound.

Down in her bed, Ava could hear the faintest echo of Sparkle's lullaby. She watched as Luna's light grew softer and steadier. The moon didn't flicker anymore; she just glowed with a gentle, sleepy warmth. It looked like Luna was finally snuggled in and drifting off to sleep.

Sparkle gave Luna one last gentle pat with his wing, then floated away, leaving the moon to her peaceful slumber. Ava pulled her own blanket up to her chin. She closed her eyes, imagining Sparkle's soft wings and his gentle lullaby. She felt warm and safe, just like Luna. With a happy sigh, little Ava drifted off to sleep, dreaming of friendly dragons and a moon tucked in for the night.
