Sage's Starry Slumber

A story for: Sage, Age 4

Created August 08, 2026

Tonight, as the sun dipped down and painted the sky in soft shades of orange and pink, a little girl named Sage got ready for bed. She loved bedtime, especially when her mommy or daddy told her a story. But tonight, Sage wanted to tell a story herself – a story about her favorite place: outer space.

Sage snuggled deep under her cozy blanket. "Once upon a time," she whispered, "there was a very special spaceship called 'Dreamy Cloud.' And guess who was the captain? Me!"

She closed her eyes and imagined herself in the shiny, silver cockpit of Dreamy Cloud. All around her were blinking lights and gentle beeps. With a soft hum, her spaceship lifted off the ground, past the tall trees, and into the dark, velvety sky.

The first thing Sage saw were twinkling stars, like tiny diamonds scattered across a giant, black cloth. "Hello, little stars!" she waved. Each star seemed to wink back at her, saying, 'Hello, Sage!'

Dreamy Cloud floated past the big, round Moon. The Moon looked like a friendly, sleepy face smiling down at her. Sage imagined she could see the Man in the Moon waving from his comfy chair. "Goodnight, Moon," Sage whispered, feeling a little sleepy herself.

Next, Sage steered her spaceship towards a beautiful, swirling cloud of colorful dust. "That's a nebula!" she giggled. It looked like a giant painting, with pinks and purples and blues all mixed together. It shimmered and sparkled, like fairy dust floating in the sky. She wished she could reach out and touch it, but it was too far away.

As Dreamy Cloud drifted further, Sage saw planets. First, a bright red one called Mars, then a swirly, striped one called Jupiter, and even one with beautiful rings around it – Saturn! Each planet spun slowly, like a big, quiet top.

Sage felt so peaceful looking at all the wonders of space. The silence was soft and comforting, broken only by the gentle hum of Dreamy Cloud. She imagined little space bunnies hopping on the Moon and friendly space fish swimming in the colorful nebulae.

Her eyelids felt heavier and heavier. The stars outside the window seemed to be dancing a slow, sleepy waltz. The soft glow of the planets made her feel warm and safe. Sage leaned back in her imaginary captain's chair, her head resting on a fluffy space pillow.

Dreamy Cloud slowly, gently, began its journey back home. It floated past the sleeping Moon and the winking stars. Sage snuggled deeper into her own bed, which now felt just like the softest cloud in her spaceship. The gentle hum of her bedroom fan sounded just like Dreamy Cloud's engines.

She took a deep breath, a happy, sleepy sigh. Soon, Sage's eyes were closed, and she was fast asleep, dreaming of starry skies and friendly planets, ready for another space adventure when the sun came up.
