A story for: Wren, Age 4
Created September 14, 2026
Far, far away, in the deepest, bluest part of the ocean, lived a gentle whale named Wren. Wren wasn't like other whales who made big, booming sounds. Wren sang soft, quiet songs, like whispers carried on the water.
Every evening, as the sun began to dip its toes into the sea, Wren knew it was time for her special job. She would float to the surface, her big, kind eyes watching the sky turn all shades of orange and pink and purple. "Time to sing the ocean to sleep," she would hum to herself.
First, Wren would sing a slow, swishy song for the little fish. They would dart and dance in the last rays of sunlight, then, one by one, they would slow down, their tiny fins barely moving, tucking themselves into cozy coral beds. Wren's song was like a soft blanket, wrapping around them.
Next, she'd sing a bubbly song for the playful dolphins. The dolphins, who loved to leap and splash all day, would hear Wren's tune. Their flips would become gentler, their clicks softer, until they, too, would rest their happy heads on the water, dreaming of sun-kissed waves.
Then came a deep, rolling melody for the big sea turtles. They would have swum so far all day, exploring caves and nibbling on tasty seaweed. Wren's song would remind them it was time to find a peaceful spot, maybe under a floating lily pad, and close their ancient, wise eyes.
As the stars began to twinkle like diamonds scattered on a dark blanket, Wren would sing her quietest, most peaceful song of all. It was a song for the waves themselves. The big, crashing waves would listen and become gentle ripples. The small, lapping waves would listen and become tiny whispers against the shore.
The moon, a silver smile in the sky, would watch Wren, proud of her special gift. The whole ocean, from the deepest trench to the shallowest tide pool, would be quiet, lulled by Wren's beautiful voice.
Finally, when every creature was asleep, and the ocean was calm and still, Wren would feel a soft, sleepy feeling wash over her. She would let out one last, long, gentle hum, a sleepy sigh carried on the water. Then, Wren would find her own cozy spot, deep in the soft, dark water, and slowly, gently, she would close her own big, kind eyes, drifting off to sleep, dreaming of the peaceful ocean she had sung to rest.
