Finn and the Dream Lantern

A story for: Finn, Age 7

Created October 23, 2026

Deep within the Whispering Woods, where the moonlight dappled through ancient oak leaves, lived a little bunny named Finn. Finn had the softest, fluffiest white fur and the biggest, brightest eyes you ever did see. But tonight, Finn wasn't quite sleepy. He was a little worried because he’d heard that sometimes, dreams could be a bit… muddled. He wanted his dreams to be filled with sunshine and carrot cake, not wobbly paths or grumpy squirrels.

His grandmother, a wise old bunny with spectacles perched on her nose, had told him a secret. “Little Finn,” she’d whispered, “there’s a special lantern, hidden deep in the Moonpetal Meadow. It’s called the Dream Lantern, and it shines with a gentle, sleepy light that makes all dreams peaceful and sweet.”

Finn decided he would find that lantern. He was a brave bunny, even if his legs were a bit short. He hopped out of his cozy burrow, his nose twitching, smelling the damp earth and sweet night-blooming jasmine.

He followed a path lit by glow-worms, their tiny lights like scattered emeralds. The air was cool and soft against his whiskers. He passed sleeping butterflies clinging to blades of grass, and tiny crickets chirping a lullaby.

Soon, he reached the Moonpetal Meadow. It was a beautiful place, filled with flowers that glowed with a soft, silvery light, just like tiny moons. And right in the very center, hanging from the tallest Moonpetal, was the Dream Lantern. It wasn’t big or fancy, just a simple glass orb, filled with a warm, golden glow.

Finn tiptoed closer. The light from the lantern felt like a soft hug. It wasn't bright enough to wake anyone, just enough to fill the air with a sleepy magic. He reached out a paw and gently touched the cool glass. A wave of peacefulness washed over him, from his twitching nose to his fluffy tail.

He didn't need to take the lantern; its magic filled the whole meadow, and now, it was filling him too. He yawned, a big, wide bunny yawn, and felt his eyelids grow heavy. The idea of wobbly paths and grumpy squirrels seemed silly now. All he could think about was soft moss and sweet dreams of delicious carrot cake.

Finn lay down right there in the soft moonpetal grass, the Dream Lantern’s golden light wrapping around him like a warm blanket. He closed his eyes, and a happy sigh escaped him. He knew tonight his dreams would be the very best kind, thanks to the gentle light of the Dream Lantern and his own brave heart. As the moon climbed higher, Finn drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, ready for dreams as sweet and soft as a cloud.
